Man dies in police car collision A man has died in a collision involving a police car and a Renault Clio in County Antrim. It happened on the Ballybogey Road, between Ballymoney and Portrush, at about 0400 GMT on Thursday. A 29-year-old man who was also in the car has been taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The incident has been referred to the Police Ombudsman, who has appealed for a lorry driver who was in the area at the time to contact their office. The road has been closed and diversions have been put in place. SDLP assembly member John Dallat said the death was a "tragedy". "All road deaths are tragic and regrettable, but one in the run-up…

"The expected protection of schools, hospitals and the police from swingeing budget cuts represents a victory of the three Cabinet ministers in charge of those spending departments – Ed Balls, Andy Burnham and Alan Johnson. But their total departmental budget is not guaranteed as Mr Darling will want some non-essential cuts to be made in parts of the Home Office and Schools and Health departments. " http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/finance...d-fairness.html It appears from early statements made today before the PBR that the Police along with other front line services will have there budgets protected!!!! Be interesting to see the actual outcome but initially looks g…

Why stop there, lets bring in the RCMP (although to police in NI they'll have to drop the "royal" prefix) then we can get in the NYPD and after that the German police could have a go! What a load of tosh! But still, it's nice to know he doesnt have a problem with dissidents....lets see if he still thinks that when he's having to dive for cover some day!

Although the issue of photography in a public place or the photographing or filming of the police or PCSOs has been discussed here before, as a photographer and photographer rights advocate who along with many others keep a keen eye on this forum, it is rather concerning that many do not know the law and continue to harass and threaten photographers going about their lawful business citing "make it up as you go along" laws or by abusing anti-terrorism laws. In spite of much discussion in the media, upheld complaints against the police and public embarrassment it appears that many officers on the street have really not gotten the message that photography in a public plac…

Police believe two men killed when a quad bike was hit by a train may have been fleeing the scene of a shop burglary. Two hundred men's specialist outdoor jackets worth £40,000 were stolen from Go Outdoors in Newport Road, Cardiff. Officers were called to the store just after 0400 GMT - around the time the men, both in their 20s, were hit on tracks nearby. Police are studying CCTV footage and are appealing for witnesses. In a statement, South Wales Police said: "Police believe that the men who made off from the Go Outdoors store after committing the burglary may be the same men involved in the fatal incident at a nearby railway line. OVER the past month, commuters travelling on the Tube through London’s East End have been greeted by posters plastered on station walls. In bold letters above a picture of two uniformed officers patrolling the capital’s streets, the billboards invite the public to “Meet the THEOsâ€. The posters go on to explain that the Theos are here to tackle antisocial behaviour and inner-city grime. The less observant could be forgiven for thinking these men and women are a new and curiously named breed of Metropolitan Police officer in their dark blue uniforms, epaulettes, badges, stab vests and radios. They can also demand your name and address, issue fines and confiscat…
