A criminal successfully escaped from prison by ambulance after slicing off part of his ear. Michael O'Donnell, who was on remand for burglary and conspiracy to rob, was escorted from his cell by three officers after calling for help at around 1.30am on Sunday. The 28-year-old told staff he had been injured in an accident and they called an ambulance. After it left Forest Bank prison in Salford it was forced to stop by four masked men in a stolen BMW. They smashed its windows and used bolt-cutters to reach O'Donnell in the back. He was handcuffed to a prison officer, but quickly released. "The Metropolitan Police has informed would-be officers who passed its recruitment stages successfully that their applications have been rescinded. Approximately 2,000 candidates were left in limbo when the force announced a recruitment freeze in February. Several applicants told the BBC they were shocked but had been told the "economic climate" was to blame. The Met Police admitted applicants had been notified but said: "We are still recruiting." One of the candidates involved, who was wary of giving his name as he did not want to be penalised if he made any future applications, said: "I received a call earlier which just tore my dreams apart. PCSO Mark James and his colleague Ike Ebosie were on patrol in a burglary hot spot in Chiswick when they spotted a man that fitted the description of a wanted suspect. PCSO James said: “I was talking to him and he was totally compliant and happy to talk to us. He gave us his particulars but because of his manner it didn’t seem right.†PCSO Ebosie saw the man’s passport in his back pocket, but when he refused to hand it over and the officers said they would need…

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/10394128.stm Greater Manchester Police have been criticised for their response to calls about a mother who killed her childre "But even if the call had been given a priority grading requiring a response in 10 minutes, it would appear the radio operators would still have struggled to resource the incident in a timely manner." and Ms Malik said her investigation of the lead-up to the incident found radio operators had a lack of resources at their disposal. but: "I fully appreciate police resources are stretched and will be stretched further in the current economic climate. "But when the public make emergency calls they have …

Traveller families have set up camp on land earmarked for a new £20million police headquarters. More than 20 people invaded the land near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, on Sunday night, towing half-a-dozen caravans with them. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1288583/What-cheek-Traveller-families-invade-land-owned-POLICE.html#ixzz0rcFwdjCY The topic says it all. And, as if the Police have nothing better to do then clean up yet another nuisance. The laws on squatting are a real pain, and this looks no different.

The Sun If, as reported, then the "fell below the required standard"....is more of a Pervert Course of Justice or Perjury? Still every little helps with the stats as this will still be recorded as a detection and count in the crime figures as an offender brought to justice!

One of the two killers of Merseyside toddler James Bulger has been charged with possession and distribution of indecent images of children.
