Twenty-one year old James Allan, from Workington, has been sentenced to a 12 month jail term suspended for two years for downloading illegal images for children being abused. Allan was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court on Friday, 6 August after admitting 14 charges of making (downloading) indecent images of children and 1 count of possession of extreme pornography. As part of his sentence he was also issued with a two year supervision order, disqualified from working with children and vulnerable adults for life, made subject to restrictions under a Sex Offenders Prevention Order and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for ten years. A homeless man told a court he thought he was going to die when a mental health patient allegedly slashed his face and throat in an alleyway. Recovering alcoholic Owen Allen, 47, needed a lifesaving operation following a “frenzied†attack in Mill Platt Avenue, Isleworth. Jodie Dobby, 23, of Clayponds Avenue, Brentford, is said to have repeatedly stabbed Mr Allan in the head, face and neck after they drank together on September 18 last year. A member of a drugs gang who took £10m cash they made from selling cocaine to an exchange bureau to swap it for euros has been jailed for six years. Abu Raja, 27, of Queenswood Avenue, Hounslow, set up a fake company as a front for changing the huge sums of money for 500 euro notes. Raja and Jaspreet Gill, 27, submitted bogus details to Revenue and Customs to get a certificate of registration for money laundering regulation when they established two false businesses. On-the-spot fines for offences including being drunk and disorderly have been stopped in parts of London. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-10918207 Seems to be that as people dont pay the fines then they are on the way out. Discretion, words of advice, cautions and court visits are to replace the fines. If only there was some way to make people pay the fines, like taking them to court and making them do it, but that costs money, so instead we can caution them or take them to court which costs money.
