Christopher Halaka, an officer with Strathclyde Police, was arrested in Perth after being reported by an off-duty officer from a neighbouring force. Mr Halaka appeared at Perth Sheriff Court to face a charge of committing a sectarian breach of the peace on 27 December. The officer, who denies the charges, has not been suspended from duty. If convicted, he could be sacked from his job at Strathclyde Police and even be given a prison sentence. Two police officers on the island of Barra (outer Hebrides) have received commendations for their professionalism and bravery shown during a firearms incident in Barra in December 2009. PCs Michael Gallie and Blair McMaster were presented with Force commendations by the Chief Constable of Northern Constabulary, Ian Latimer and the Convenor of the Northern Joint Police Board, Norman MacLeod at a ceremony in Castlebay Community Hall, Barra on Wednesday 18 August. War veterans shouted "disgusting" as Wendy Lewis arrived at Blackpool Magistrates Court A woman who urinated on a war memorial in Blackpool and performed a sex act nearby has been barracked by veterans. Wendy Lewis, 32, of Princess Street, Blackpool, was due to be sentenced at the town's magistrates court earlier. Lewis was last week convicted in her absence of outraging public decency. "Crash for cash" scams where fraudsters stage accidents to claim on other drivers' insurance are at an all-time high, the BBC has learned. The Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) estimates around 30,000 accidents were staged last year. The scams cost insurers about £350m in 2009 and added £44 to the premium of every driver in the country. Birmingham was the UK's top fraud hot-spot and incidents rose in parts of London, the industry-funded body said. Until recently the claims were largely confined to north-west England, and the other four top spots for insurance fraud of this sort were filled by Liverpool, Blackburn, Manchester and Leeds. Police are hoping to use artist's impressions to identify some of the unclaimed bodies found on Britain's rail network in the last 35 years. Artist Sharon McDonagh has drawn pictures of 20 of the deceased. None of them is believed to have been the victim of foul play and most were hit by trains.
