Bankrupt Michael Osborne was given seven days to repay the sum – despite earning more than £45,000 from his life of crime. The 50-year-old, of Lantana Close, Waterlooville, supplied people with equipment to get free Virgin Media channels over a four-year period. Osborne sold fraudulent smart cards that allowed people to watch premium channels without paying the monthly subscription fees…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-13485267 Northern Ireland politicians have condemned the bomb attack on Londonderry city centre. The device exploded in the Diamond at about 1320 BST, but there are no reports of any injuries or damage. SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan said he was "deeply angered and shocked at this dangerous attack". NI's First Minister Peter Robinson condemned those responsible and said they had nothing to offer society except "death and destruction". Sinn Fein councillor Gerry MacLochlainn was in the area when the explosion happened. "I was going up to the Tower Hotel because there was a possible evacuation because of a bomb scare," he said.…

Home Secretary Theresa May yesterday faced down fierce criticism from police union members furious over proposed pay cuts. Police Federation delegates sat in stony silence as Mrs May said she would not back away from reforming their pay structure for the first time since the 1970s. And they mocked her when she defended coalition plans to increase spending on foreign aid by 34 per cent by 2015 while Home Office funding for police forces is set to fall by a fifth over the next four years. To jeers of laughter, Mrs May told the federation’s conference in Bournemouth: ‘If you get aid right in certain parts of the world, such as Pakistan, it will reduce the possibility of …

Much activity on twitter at the moment with talk that ACPO E&W may be forced to wind up their Limited Company within months as they are very short of funds. The following tweet is from the Deputy Editor of Police Review magazine and contains a link to the full article on their website but I am not a member so can't view it. Does anybody have any more information?

A computer hacker who ruined a man's internet firm 'for a game' and was caught with thousands of stolen bank account details has been spared jail - so he can carry on studying for a degree in law. Sussex University student Zachary Woodham, 19, had bragged online about how easy it was to take control of servers. He even forced one victim to shut down his website hosting firm, accompanying his cyber-attacks with a series of silent telephone calls, Southwark Crown Court heard. Woodham also boasted to his friend and fellow hacker Charles Tobenhouse, 18, that he had redirected visitors to a church website to web pages depicting gay orgies. When he was arrested at his parents' …

I don't know the details, but it sounds like they needed an enforcer to open the door and so the IRV which arrived had to call up for a van to bring one down. Do other forces carry an enforcer as standard in all vehicles, or similar? I know of some officers who carry their own sledge-hammer and hooli-bar in whatever vehicle they go out in just in case...

Two men are to stand trial for the murder of Stephen Lawrence. Gary Dobson, 35, and David Norris, 34, are accused of killing the black teenager at a bus stop in Eltham, south-east London, on 22 April, 1993. Nobody has been convicted of the crime, but a small team of Scotland Yard detectives has continued to investigate the 18-year-old's death. His parents Doreen and Neville have continued to campaign for their son's killer to be brought to justice. Mr Dobson and Mr Norris were arrested last September over the murder and are in custody. The allegations could not previously be reported for legal reasons. BBC

The older generation are always grumbling about the youth of today - but it seems they may have a point. One in four teenagers thinks it is acceptable to cheat in exams, new research suggests, and many see no harm in shoplifting or fare dodging on public transport. The findings will raise concerns that many youngsters will start adulthood believing that unethical behaviour is acceptable. The report concludes that the findings are 'clear evidence' that students should be given ethics lessons as part of the curriculum. But it also found that more teenagers believe they can make the world a better place. Researchers questioned questioned 10,000 13 to 15-year-olds between 2…
