Dawn raids on Friday morning saw police arrest four people on suspicion of the murder on the West Kensington Estate of Polish chef Krzysztof Rusek. And, in a double whammy, officers smashed into four properties linked to members of a notorious Shepherd's Bush gang, which is believed to be responsible for a string of robberies and firearms offences. The double raids formed part of Operation Tain, which is targeting violent robbers. Mr Rusek, murdered in cold blood in a garden area of the estate by Lillie Road on Tuesday, was robbed by up to five suspects, some masked, before his killing. A friend and colleague from the Ibis Hotel in Lillie Road escaped injury a…

Watchdogs have criticised the "piecemeal and largely uncontrolled" use of out-of-court punishments. The chief inspectors of constabulary and prosecution said the powers were sometimes used for persistent and more serious offenders. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13706836 Not sure how i feel about this report. We use tickets, cautions, community resolution etc all the time. They are fastish, cheapish and more practical than trying to shove an endless string of people at court. I have seen prolific offenders given cautions, usually when they admit the offence but we cant take them to court. I have repeatedly seen a shoplifter refused an £80 ticket because of their histr…

A young police constable is facing charges this week after allegedly threatening to kill one of the country's most senior officers. The 28 year-old probationary officer, based at Kensington police station, resigned after being called into the office of Met Police Assistant Commissioner Ian McPherson at Scotland Yard on June 3 to talk about his 'unsatisfactory performance.' He is then said to have gone out drinking before returning to his base in Earls Court Road, where colleagues put him in a police car to drive him home. Once he was in the car, the officer allegedly threatened to kill Mr McPherson, who is in charge of unifo…

ARMED police were sent in to action more than 900 times last year in the West Midlands. Gun-carrying officers are usually only tasked with cases where there is a serious risk of violence and where suspects are believed to be armed. New Home Office figures show that officers from West Midlands Police took part in 933 operations in which firearms were authorised – nearly 18 operations every week. But this is down from 1,109 the year previously. The number of armed operations has fallen every year since 2007. Instead, the force has used what it describes as “intelligence-led†policing to reduce the number of occasions when firearms are needed. The force also deploy…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-13678266 A self-confessed metal thief who was seriously burned trying to steal live power cables said his injuries were so bad his daughter did not recognise him in hospital. James Sorby, 22, of Cavalier Close, Cross Green, Leeds, was left close to death after being hit with a 21,000 volt shock at a power sub-station. The impact blew part of his skull off, leaving his brain exposed. Leeds magistrates gave him a 12-month community service order for burglary. He said the exact detail of what happened during the incident at Skelton Grange earlier this year is unclear. He said: "All I can remember is going into the empty wareho…
