Details of how the proposed National Crime Agency will operate when it is set up next year are to be unveiled. It will replace the Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca) covering drugs and gun crime, and the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre. Plans for it to absorb the Serious Fraud Office were reportedly dropped. With policing devolved in Scotland and Northern Ireland, the Home Office is expected to explain how the NCA will liaise with forces across the UK. Last month BBC business editor Robert Peston reported that Home Secretary Theresa May had been forced by her cabinet colleagues to back down on her plans to break up the Serious Fraud Office (SFO). H…

Police swooped on a car in a seaside town and seized 50 high-powered stun guns which were disguised as mobile phones. Officers searched a red Audi in Paignton, Devon, at 4.45pm on Monday and found the weapons stuffed into a holdall. It is thought the weapons may have been imported from mainland Europe to be sold on the black market in the UK. The weapons, which are illegal to own, were disguised as silver mobile handsets which would enable criminals to carry them. They emit a potentially lethal charge from the top of the mobile phone, which is activated by pressing the keypad. Devon and Cornwall police yesterday said they were testing the haul of weapons to …

Windsor woman warns over Facebook amputee fetishist A Windsor campaigner has warned of the dangers of social networking after being targeted by men who are attracted to amputee women. Charlotte Fielder, who was born missing a hand, has been awarded an MBE for her work helping people who are "limb deficient" with the charity Reach. After signing up to Facebook, she found her profile image had been copied and posted on a pornographic website. Her image was subjected to obscene comments by men attracted to amputees. The image used was one of Mrs Fielder fully-clothed. She said many women amputees she knew had been contacted by so-called "devotees". Mrs Fielder, 47, …

David Cameron has ordered Ken Clarke to rethink his plans for soft sentencing for the most serious criminals. The Prime Minister summoned the Justice Secretary to a one-on-one meeting in Downing Street yesterday and told him to go back to the drawing board. MPs, victims groups and lawyers have all denounced Mr Clarke’s plans to slash jail terms by 50 per cent for those criminals prepared to plead guilty early. Police minister Nick Herbert revealed at the weekend that the measure would mean 10,000 felons, including murderers and rapists would see their sentences slashed. The Justice Secretary had previously enraged rape victims by insisting he would halve the time behi…

SOCA is said to be "melting" into the National Crime agency, any ideas when this will officially take place? Also prior to SOCA the formally "national Crime squad" took Police officers on with ease and it was still essentially the under Police Umbrella, is anyone aware if this will be a similar case with the NCA? Cheers, Sam

Burglars are increasingly plumping for fashionable footwear when breaking into homes, it has been claimed. The average house thief wears trainers worth more than £100 when they are on a job - and they favour the more expensive brands of Nike, Reebok and Adidas. Criminologists at the University of Leicester used 'footwear profiling' - looking at footprints left at the scenes of crimes - to come up with the data. Just a single imprint from the sole of a shoe told them the age of the offender, if they had a job and pinpointed where they live. They found that 94 per cent of burglars wear trainers costing up to £120 and that the younger the intruder, the more expensiv…

Link = http://www.bbc.co.uk...-essex-13673320 Without knowing the in's and out's it is hard to tell if the police could have stopped this or not, but it appears as the residents have already come to their conclusions! No doubt the IPCC will be thoroughly investigating this one in light of the allegations.

A self-confessed metal thief who was seriously burned trying to steal live power cables said his injuries were so bad his daughter did not recognise him in hospital. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-13678266 Of course he is recognisable, he is the one with the burns, how many people do you meet in that state. Maybe he will learn.

A police officer assaulted a French tourist and left him needing hospital treatment after spotting him urinating in a bush, a court has been told. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-13685060 I changed the topic slightly as we do not know this French person was attacked by anyone, by his own admission he does not remember much. I am assuming, he fell over, claimed Police attacked him.
