A police sergeant in Sunderland appeared at Newcastle Crown Court(was found not guilty) accused of dealing in steroids. The officer admitted he does take steroids but thought they where legal. The officer is a body builder and judging by the physique he boasts it looks like he has taken more than a few of these steroids. He is currently suspended on full pay while misconduct proceedings continue. You can read the article(s) here: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/north-east-news/evening-chronicle-news/2011/04/01/jarrow-policeman-faces-sack-over-steroids-72703-28442092/ Id like to know what other serving officers think of this sergeant ie should he be sacked? do you thi…

A "cornerstone" of the legal system, the universal right to a solicitor upon arrest, could be jettisoned in favour of means-testing under controversial plans drawn up by the Ministry of Justice. http://www.guardian.co.uk/law/2011/jun/25/legal-aid-reform-free-solicitor Defendant: I want my brief. Police Officer: How much do you earn? Would one not have to be earning a heap load of money in order to be able to afford a solicitor? Get arrested for murder, you could be looking at costs in the hundreds of thousands of pounds. "The confirmation drew a sharp response from Macdonald. "This is a critical part of the apparatus of protection that we have," he said. "The prese…

Thousands of criminals are set to be 'named and shamed' on police websites. American-style mugshots will be published on the internet along with details of their offences and punishment in a major extension of crime maps. It will allow the public to see at a glance the worst offenders in their area, such as burglars, violent thugs and rapists. Ministers hope the move will help the public hold to account police, prosecutors and other parts of the justice system as well as deterring criminals from committing further offences. Policing minister Nick Herbert said he was determined to reform a system that was 'completely opaque'. 'The public and victims are entitled to…

Its OK To Swear At Police Mon, 27 June 2011 Courtesy of: The Sun Online Yobs can swear at police without fear of arrest, according to guidance issued to officers. Louts are able to tell cops to "f*** off" or call them "w*****s" and the C-word with impunity, says an advice card drawn up by chiefs. It says courts do not accept that such terms cause officers "harassment or distress" and so do not justify making an arrest in themselves. The card has been issued by Scotland Yard to officers of London's Met, who face foul-mouthed tirades daily. “Officers don't need to be told how to do their job†Yard bosses warn that in the past compensation has been paid over cas…

Britain's world-famous red postboxes are being stolen by criminals who sell them abroad for thousands of pounds. The metal boxes are being ripped from lampposts and telegraph poles all over the UK while others have been chiselled out of brick walls. In some cases, entire pillar boxes have been uprooted from the ground. Police believe cars or trucks have been used to drag them from their foundations. Many antique boxes are being sold over the internet as souvenirs to collectors abroad, especially in the US. Royal Mail has been hit by a wave of thefts, especially in rural areas, in recent months. One insider said: 'This is not an opportunist thing people do on t…

As many as 3,000 criminals, including rapists, robbers and burglars, escaped punishment last year because they were too young to be prosecuted. Children as young as three were identified by police as being responsible for a hidden crimewave across Britain. But they avoided criminal proceedings because they were aged below ten, when the Government says they become ‘responsible’ for their actions. The shocking figures, which come amid increasing concern at violence involving children, sparked demands for the Government to consider lowering the age of criminal responsibility. Tory MP Philip Davies said: ‘Criminals are becoming more precocious and police tell me that thos…

A fashion tycoon who was stopped by police on suspicion of drink driving offered to give them his Maserati sports car if the matter was dropped, a court heard. George Davies, 69, was convicted yesterday of drink-driving in the £100,000 luxury sports car. Mr Davies, who founded Next in 1982, saw magistrates dismiss his claim that Drambuie used to wash down headache pills had tipped him over the limit. His trial yesterday heard evidence that he tried to bribe the officers who stopped him while driving home from a charity event. Davies, who also created the George at Asda label and Per Una for Marks & Spencer, denied offering them his supercar in return for letting…

A police constable has been sacked for posting offensive messages about a colleague on Facebook and harassing a female colleague. The 35-year-old Met officer, who was based in Islington, referred to another officer as a "grass" and a "liar" on the social networking site last year. The officer was dismissed following an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). The IPCC said his behaviour had resembled a "nasty schoolyard bully". The Pc posted the "deeply offensive" comments on Facebook on 18 June last year. The officer had also been involved in a brief, casual relationship with a colleague, which ended acrimoniously in April last year. Th…

DETECTIVES have launched an investigation after the Brierley Hill charity headquarters of the Midland Air Ambulance was raided this morning. Three masked men, armed with a Taser, burst into the charity's office on the Enterprise Trading Estate off Pedmore Road at around 8.45am today (21 June). They threatened staff inside the offices with the Taser, although the weapon was not used. No one was injured, and the men ran from the premises having stolen bags of money, and escaped in a member of staff's car – a grey Peugeot 308. Acting detective sergeant Chris Woodward, from the Sandwell and Dudley team of Force CID, said: "This is a serious, and despicable, crime. "Sta…

Milly Dowler's mother says she hopes Levi Bellfield is in a "living hell" while he is in prison - after he was given a whole life sentence for abducting and killing the teenager in 2002. Sally Dowler spoke outside court and said: "At last the man responsible for the cruel murder of our darling daughter has been found guilty. http://web.orange.co.uk/article/news/bellfield_life_sentence_as_jury_discharged Bless him. One thing that is left out from the media over this case, the brilliant work done by our Police. I for one never thought the Police would catch the killer of Milly Dowler.
