Howdy all. Just thought I'd spark up a little discussion about the various area commands. Where you work, what do you think of your area, what do you think of other areas etc. I'm not yet in the job, still in the process of recruitment. I'm still a student at the moment so I have a relativly "sheltered" view in that I know pretty much nothing about the rest of the county other than Newcastle city centre Where are high crime areas? What can one expect to deal with in certain areas? Where is the best place for a young probie to get his teeth stuck in? Any other factors to consider when choosing a force area? SERVING SPECIALS ONLY PLEASE Folks I am doing a little research on the current feeling of NorPol specials. In recent months I have spoken to a number of specials, old and new, and the recurrent theme seems to be that specials are generally disheartened and feel somewhat under valued. Things have improved slightly in the last few months with the addition of the Specials Development Officer however he is regularly being drafted into the A/C's / sift for regulars, PCSO's and DO etc. Whilst the development officer is there to recruit and manage the "HR" side of the specials he does not represent the views of the constabulary - thats the job of the Commandant.
