I'm taking my Police Initial Recruitment Test (PIRT) in a couple of weeks time. Until yesterday, I had only glanced at what the test would consist of and initially disregarded it as a very basic reasoning test. I was wrong! I decided, last night, to take a look at the sample PIRT and guidance on the NWP recruitment website last night, and have a practice with the practice paper. I'm glad I did because my first scores were appalling (averaging 50% correct). These scores would have had me fail the PIRT. The PIRT test examples with NWP are just some scanned copies of example tests. Is there a better set of PIRT online somewhere for practice purposes?

Hi everyone! Anybody else applying? I've sent off my application today but one things confused me, there are two intakes left, one Specials course starts on January 9th 2014 and the last Specials intake of the financial year will start on the 20th March 2014. So, if I applied just now, guess I will be considered for the last one, since the recruitment window opened on 15/11/13?

During the North Wales Police recruitment process you're asked to disclose any immunisations/vaccines you've had since birth on your medical form. I've had all the usual: MMR, Polio, Tetanus, BCG... I have not, however, been vaccinated against Hepatitis B - is this going to be a problem when it comes to appointment? It's probably a good idea I get vaccinated against it anyway... A family friend that was in the MET years ago was bitten by civilian with TB. She wasn't vaccinated at the time. She quickly became ill and not long after contracted MS. She now has to walk with a cane. It's quite scary how quickly these things can happen and how one thing can lead to another...

Hello everyone - my name's Eddy and I'm new to the forum. I have been progressing through the stages of the Police Specials recruitment process here in North Wales and I have my formal interview (and Welsh test) tomorrow afternoon. Some of the questions on the PIRT caught me by surprise and I ended up scoring a few marks less than I was hoping for. I made it this far so I don't suppose that matters now. However, I do wonder what to expect from my interview tomorrow. I have done some research this week on the forces aims and I've read up on the Policing Professional Framework and the personal qualities expected of a Special Constable. Just wondering if there is anybody else on here who is applying as I am currently in the process of filling out my application. Finding it rather hard. First time applying. Wondering how much of an affect family history has on the application because I do not know my father, I only know name from my Birth Certificate so I have no idea of if has had any dealing with the police.. he could even be in prison now for all I know. I have attached a note explaining my lack of relationship with him, I only hope this is taken into consideration as he is certainly no reflection on my own character after 20+ years of no contact.

Hi just wondering if you fail vetting with NWP would they tell you if its a third party so they cant tell you why? Or say the Chief Constable reserves the right to refuse clearance without reason? Hoping somebody here has had some experience with this. Thanks in advance.
