http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-11993008 Dorset Police has released animations warning partygoers of the dangers of drinking too much alcohol. It wants to prevent an increase in drink-related violence during the new year celebrations and is aiming the films at 18 to 30-year-olds. One cartoon is targeted at men and the other at women. They have been made available on social networking sites. The release of the videos coincides with an increase in police officers on patrol over the holidays. Insp Peter Meteau, based at Weymouth police station, said: "The most unfortunate thing I see is young men, who have never been in tr…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-12006591 Police in Bournemouth are handing out free bells to Christmas shoppers in a bid to combat pickpockets. The bells can be attached to wallets and purses and jingle when moved, alerting shoppers to potential thefts, police said. Officers will be giving out the bells from a stand in Bournemouth Avenue Centre in Commercial Road between 1200 and 1400 GMT every day until Saturday. The move has been backed by businesses across the town. Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Dom Smith said: "This giveaway is all about making people aware of how they can keep their valuables safe when they are shopping. We are advising all…

All the conurbation stations are shortly moving to a 4 squad rotation. Just thinking out load, but doesn't fewer squads with more officers mean; A) less single crewed units for Specials to crew up with. B) less vehicles for Specials to crew up together with. does this mean alot more foot patrol?

hi, got home from work today to an answer phone message from dorset police regarding my application-im on the reserve list from sept 09 recruitment drive-couldnt quite make sense of it, so called human resources. i spoke to somebody but was told that the person who rang me was not available again until tomorrow, this person also told me that it was probably regarding two dates that have come up for assessment centres this year as opposed to next january as i was originally informed. does anyone else know any more about this? also is there anybody out there who attended assessment centre in jan who would be willing to give me some insight into what to prepare for? :-)

As of October 2009, the medical for the Dorset Special Constabulary involves the following: a lung capacity test - you blow into a tube and the machine registers the amount of air you can store in your lungs (I believe you do this three times, the highest reading is recorded) an eye test - instead of reading random letters from the familiar Snellen Chart, you'll look into a machine that looks like a cross between a microscope and a pair of binoculars. Various test are run covering colour blindness, depth perception, peripheral vision as well as visual acuity. If you wear contacts or glasses you'll do this test twice, once with corrected eyesight and once without. a…

Wotcha, I was one of the lucky few to snare an application form for the 2010/2011 intake. Is anybody else spending evenings bashing out their application questions in triplicate for the consumption of friends and relatives...or have you confidently sent off your forms already? And 'Hello' by the way. All the best, DB
