Big Decision to Leave Job!!

After 8 years in the police force I decided to apply for another job with the local council and I have been offered the position. It will mean the same pay, 11 mins from home and not the 1 hour commute each way, permanent position and 60/40 office based. The reason I applied was to re address my work and home life balance having an 8 week and 3 year old sons. I now have the dilemma of leaving the police service and is the grass always greener on the other side? I'm struggling with postives at this time to remain in the career that I wanted so badly!! The plan when I started was to go on cid but after seeing them in action or lack of it just waiting for al…

Hi all, I've applied to join the police but am very confused regarding the current pension arrangements. As a new joiner would you be put in the 2006 scheme? What are the (very basic) key points of this? Is there some 2015 ammendment? I just want to make 100% sure the pension I'm walking away from isn't better! (I very much doubt it is...!)

Today Is My Last Day In The Job.

Today is my last day in the job. Tomorrow is my first day retired. I have chucked it at 50 years old with more than 25 years service. I take a big hit with the commutation, but the monthly pension is fine. I don't care about that, I am just glad to be out. I phoned in sick two months ago, I saw my GP, gave him a brief run down of events in my career and he signed me off for as long as it took to retire, so I did not have to go back into work. No one from work has been in touch. I have had stuff through about retiring and I will keep on membership of the Federation because they do a good deal on travel/breakdown/home emergency/legal cover. I sneaked into work a while ba…

Hi all, New to the site and after your thoughts. I left the Met after 7 and a half years a little over 2 months ago. At the time it felt right although it was with a heavy heart. However after just a couple of months I am regretting the decision massively. I suppose the advice I need is around rejoining. Has anyone done it? I was in the Met but live in Surrey and would be interested in applying for a role there. My only concern is a knee injury I sustained off duty around 3 years ago that would be on my med record and they may reject on this basis. I left originally as I was frustrated by lack of promotion and just got a bit fed up of the job in general but the gras…

With the Government hell-bent on slashing everything in the public sector to the bone and beyond, including the police of course, have the chickens come home to roost with the high state of alert with terrorist plots, especially with specific warnings regarding police targets?

Help needed please… The facts/figures; My partner is 49….. He will retire when 55… I am guessing a final salary of say 45,000 At 55 it will also be 35 years service in the police… I keep finding all sorts of information on the web…..they make his annual pension at between 23,000 and 30,000… For examples sake…lets say 25,000 (but if anyone can help me work out the correct amount that would be great) What I cannot seem to find out is the lump sum amounts…. 1. If he commutes a quarter…what is the lump sum and what is the annual pension? 2. If he commutes half….what is the lump sum and what is the annual pension? 3. If he commutes…
