Shift work has been linked to higher rates of type 2 diabetes, heart attacks and cancer. I am sure glad that Mr Winsor recognised how disruptive night shifts are by paying us an extra 10% for every full hour worked until 0600. Seriously though I had heard lots of bad press about night shifts but this article highlights a wide range of serious health problems caused by or related to night shift work.

A POLICE officer has been disciplined for driving at speeds of up to 140 mph - after being reported by the criminal he was transporting. The police constable was driving the prisoner from Leeds back to Darlington when it is claimed he drove a marked police car at up to twice the legal limit. It is understood the PC was reported by his passenger when the pair arrived at the custody suite at Darlington police station. Olly Martins Bedfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Olly Martins has set out how he intends to protect frontline policing and tackle the funding gap faced by the Force in future years in a report published today (January 29). The Commissioner will present his budget proposals to the Police and Crime Panel when it meets on February 6,. The weapon was mislaid as the officer left the site to attend another incident A policeman has been suspended after losing a Taser in Windsor Great Park. The device was lost by the Thames Valley Police officer on Tuesday afternoon as he left the site to attend an incident in Datchet.
