For the first time, a British police force will recruit people directly to become detectives without them working as beat officers in uniform. The Metropolitan Police hopes the scheme will fill some of the 600 detective vacancies in the force. It also hopes to attract people with different skills and backgrounds who might otherwise not want to join. Up to 80 detectives will be taken on initially, with further recruitment rounds likely to follow. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-40101551 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

With all the photos in the press of the public approaching, engaging and speaking to armed police just as they would their unarmed collegues, does it finally put to rest the anti-arming argument that arming all police will change forever the relationship between the public and the police? PS I'm not debating SHOULD we be armed just whether one of the main pillars of the argument not to arm has been dealt a death blow.

Fraudsters have set up fake fundraising pages in a twisted bid to raise money for victims of the London Bridge terror attack. Donations website JustGiving confirmed it had deleted three appeals after establishing they were not genuine. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/london-bridge-terror-attack-crooks-set-up-fake-funds-in-sick-bid-for-cash-a3558836.html Hate scumbags who do this and the police round up the scum. Donations to the British Red Cross UK Solitary Fund can be made online, by phone on 0300 023 0820, or by texting UNITY to 70607 to donate £10.

This is the dramatic moment Londoners confronted a pair of hammer-wielding moped thieves as they used an angle-grinder in a brazen daylight attempt to steal a bike. Footage shows two men attempting to steal the vehicle from outside an office block in east London before shocked onlookers try to tackle them to the ground. One of the helmet-clad men appears to threaten people with a hammer as they walk past the thugs in Back Church Lane, Whitechapel. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/dramatic-moment-londoners-confront-hammerwielding-thugs-during-brazen-moped-theft-attempt-a3555241.html
