A while back I suggested that discontent with the police arising from the various antics of senior officers and the like, would spill over onto the streets. Well I see that in one town in Essex, the rot has started. DAILY MAIL report Now while part of me wants to say he got what he desereved, which is more than he will get from the courts, I can also see that this is just the thin end of a very nasty wedge, where the public will increasingly take matters into their own hands. Brundstrom, Ghaffur, Med Hughes, and Disae - YOU started off this rot with your antics, and lack of professionalism!!

As the number of rough-looking mutts on Britain's streets has risen, so has their involvement in crime. Has man's best friend become more weapon than pet? Andy Beckett investigates. Michele, which is not her real name, is a small, watchful teenager from south London. She used to have a rottweiler. "Kids would offer us £300 for it because it was so aggressive," she says. One day she finally agreed to sell the dog to some teenage boys. They suggested meeting at a railway station near her flat to conclude the deal. But when she approached the boys on one of the platforms, just as a train was pulling in, they tried to grab her rottweiler by the lead without handing over the…

Miss Adamson was crossing the road when she was struck by the police car, which had been tracking another vehicle. The teenager, who lived in the city's Cedar Road, was about to sit her GCSE exams. The home secretary has unveiled plans to train 3,600 "community crime fighters". Speaking at the Labour Party conference in Manchester on Sunday, Jacqui Smith announced £5m of funding for the scheme, which will see volunteers recruited to act as links between the police and public. Smith wants one person in the role for each neighbourhood policing team by the end of next year, with the holder to advise officers on local priorities. "Local communities are our best weapon in fighting crime," she said. "We will stand shoulder to shoulder with communities who want to help tackle crime and to make their neighbourhoods safer. "In every neighbourhood there are unsung heroe…

The number of complaints made about 'stop and search' incidents has risen by nearly a quarter. Police forces in England and Wales received 536 complaints about stop and search in the last financial year, up from 434, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said. Opponents of stop and search say it unfairly targets minority groups, but the recent spate of high-profile knife crimes has led to greater use of the powers. Figures released earlier this year showed police carried out 955,000 stop and searches in 2006/07, up 9 per cent. Black people are seven times more likely to be stopped as white people, Ministry of Justice statistics showed. The overall numb…
