Strathclyde Police warn Rangers fans over song Police Warning Those based in England may not be aware of this particular song. The Song contains the line "The Famine's over, why don't you go home" which is aimed at Irish players and supporters. It's obviously difficult to arrest 50,000 people if they where all singing it but what offences, if any, would Strathclyde Police be arresting people for? Are there any specific criminal offences in this? Rangers supporters argue that this is just a wind up to Celtic fans who despite being Scottish, display a great affinity to Ireland. My own personal view is that this is racist and if aimed at any other group, The holocost …

Privacy group No2ID is calling for legal protections before the introduction of mobile fingerprint scanners next year. As we reported in May the National Policing Improvement Agency handed over £50m for mobile devices to police forces. These will allow officers to check fingerprints against the Police National Computer. A friendly Bobby takes a young lad's prints 'Don't worry, lad. The resemblance to a pencil sharpener is purely coincidental...' No2ID is concerned that there are insufficient legal safeguards for such technology to be introduced. It warned that failure rates were unacceptably high and that the public might feel under pressure to give their prints. …

MP: Black Police Assoc Is Racist Monmouth MP David Davies, a part-time special constable and a member of the Home Affairs select committee, says police officers of all nationalities want to take part in the fight against inequality. "It could be suggested that it is implicitly racist in suggesting that white people care less about racism than people of black, Middle eastern, Asian or African origin," Mr Davies said. Full membership of the National Black Police Association, set up to promote race relations and equality in police forces in the UK, is only open to officers and support staff of African, African-Caribbean, Middle eastern, Asian and Asian origin. The MP's c…

Met 'lures' Thames Valley police Thames Valley Police will continue losing officers to the Met Police unless their living allowances are raised, two MPs have warned. Fiona Mactaggart, MP for Slough, and Reading West MP Martin Salter, said Met officers earn about £4,400 a year more. They said the Thames Valley Police South East Allowance must be raised, or council tax payers would "go on losing trained officers". Thames Valley Police Federation said the "lure" of the Met was a problem. The federation, which represents the interests of constables, sergeants, inspectors and chief inspectors, said keeping staff in the region was "a huge challenge". It added it "…

A police photographer who swindled almost £200,000 in overtime, income tax and VAT after falsely claiming he had cancer has been jailed for two years. Forty-year-old Fergus Dixon Grant, from Orangefield Avenue in Belfast, admitted making false overtime claims for more than £100,000. He also created a false photography business, which he claimed ran at a loss to get tax and VAT rebates. The judge said it was a "very serious case of breach of trust". Belfast Crown Court heard Grant was put on flexible working hours after lying to colleagues that he was suffering from testicular cancer. Grant pleaded guilty to eight counts of false accounting relating to overtime…

Police will use new device to take fingerprints in street Every police force in the UK is to be equipped with mobile fingerprint scanners - handheld devices that allow police to carry out identity checks on people in the street. The new technology, which ultimately may be able to receive pictures of suspects, is likely to be in widespread use within 18 months. Tens of thousands of sets - as compact as BlackBerry smartphones - are expected to be distributed. The police claim the scheme, called Project Midas, will transform the speed of criminal investigations. A similar, heavier machine has been tested during limited trials with motorway patrols. To address fears about…

Two individuals that are certainly not fit to wear the Queens uniform and a disgrace to the Regiment. Slightly miffed why they are refered to as X & Y when a legal website list's there actual names in the public domain!!. Two soldiers have been jailed for 12 years each for conspiring to possess explosives and pass them to associates in the criminal underworld. The pair, named only as soldiers X and Y, were convicted of conspiracy to possess explosives at an earlier hearing at Maidstone Crown Court. Sentencing, Mr Justice Akenhead said the offences were "among the most serious" that soldiers could commit. The pair had been stationed at Howe Barracks in Canterbur…
