Saw this before leaving for work this morning. It showed the stop search policy in London. For once the article showed the police officers in a good light though, as always seems to be mentioned during this type of policing, that people were only being targeted because they were black or black and wearing a hood. There is no link on the BBC site yet but when one comes up today I'll edit the post and add it in. Main thing I wanted to ask was to our officers in London was, is it something that is working and do you have to put up with accusations of racism if you stop anybody who is not white? What is the best way of dealing with this type of accusation? Cheers in advanc…

A Metropolitan Police officer who had sex with a vulnerable woman while supposedly checking on her welfare has avoided going to jail. Det Con John Richmond, 53, visited the 45-year-old at home a day after she discharged herself from hospital following a drug overdose in December. The officer, from Amersham in Buckinghamshire, pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office. He was given nine month jail term, suspended for one year. Southwark Crown Court heard that shortly after the brief liaison she reported the officer, who worked for the missing persons unit at Kilburn police station in north-west London. He was then charged after an investigation by the Independe…

Steven Gerrard has been found not guilty of affray after a confrontation at a Merseyside bar. The Liverpool FC captain was accused of attacking Marcus McGee, 34, after a row over music at the Lounge Inn in Southport. Today at Liverpool Crown Court Gerrard was cleared of unjustly attacking the businessman. Outside court, Gerrad said: ""Can I just say how pleased I am with today's verdict. I am glad to put this case behind me." The English footballer had admitted hitting Mr McGee and apologised for lashing out, but denied losing control. The 29-year-old was with friends at the Merseyside bar in the early hours of December 29 when they clashed with Mr McGee, who was w…

MORE Hampshire police officers will have access to US-style stun guns from next month. Police chiefs say that the 50 new Taser weapons, which will be given to non-firearm trained officers, are a safe alternative to conventional guns. Hampshire police will train about 80 of its officers – including some of its first response car drivers – on how to use the devices. Chief Insp Tim Ashman, of the force's tactical firearms support unit, said: "It is nationally acknowledged that Taser devices offer one of the safest ways of achieving full compliance from people who are threatening violence to members of the public, police officers protecting the public or to themselv…
