New police-style powers being given to civilians could create a third-tier police force, magistrates have warned. Powers introduced in autumn 2008 mean over 1,400 people can issue penalty notices and instant fines for offences from dog fouling to public disorder. The Magistrates Association in England and Wales is concerned about bouncers and private security staff having access to the police database. The Home Office says those using the powers have been vetted and trained. Private security firms employ staff to guard buildings and manage entry into nightclubs. Under the new scheme bouncers and security staff will have the authority to stop cars for checking and…

http://www.gmp.police.uk/mainsite/pages/68...60a00503809.htm A man has been sentenced to four months' detention and banned from keeping dogs for 10 years after setting his dog on a police officer. Not that interesting, till you get to this bit......"As she was walking it to the van Ellis started acting aggressive and shouted to the dog 'Get her, get her, kill, kill kill!'." For that, 4 months in my view is not in anyway long enough. What a dangerous prat.

http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/news/Crimi...il/article.html THE ABYSMAL weather may have been the cause of much moaning, but for police officers its a source of celebration. Do you feel the difference in the crime rate when it rains? And if this is true, how comes Manchester has such a high crime rate, it rarely stops raining round that area?

Well done that man! A local police sergeant sprinted alongside a runaway lorry and jumped into its cab to prevent a major accident, Essex Police have revealed. The incident happened on Thursday when a lorry driver was taken ill when driving along the A12 at Mountnessing, near Chelmsford. His vehicle was moving out of control, so Sgt Stewart Gason jumped into the cab, and applied the brakes. Sgt Gason stopped the lorry crashing into other vehicles. Police were contacted by a worried motorist who witnessed a lorry swerving across the northbound carriageway of the A12. An Essex Police spokesman said road policing officers in Chelmsford travelled to the location and…

A gang brandishing snakes as 'weapons' attacked a 14-year-old boy with a python, forcing the reptile to bite the teenager's hand. Paramedics who attended the scene in Bradley Stoke, South Gloucestershire, were left baffled by the injury and called Bristol Zoo for advice. The boy was pinned against a wall by the gang on Saturday afternoon, before one forced the python to attack. The teenager was taken to Frenchay Hospital for checks. 'Puncture wounds' Police and the RSPCA are now investigating the incident, which took place shortly before 1500 BST . A spokesman for Great Western Ambulance service (GWAS) said: "Ambulance staff consulted Google and Bristol Zoo exper…

Chief constables may soon be given the power to veto the recruitment of officers who cannot swim. National police advisers are reviewing Home Office guidance stating it is not necessary for officers to be able to survive in water. Staff at the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) are considering allowing senior officers to block new staff who cannot swim, Police Review reported. The ability of police officers to swim was thrown into the spotlight last week at an inquest into the death of Karl Malton. The 32-year-old, from Spalding, Lincolnshire, drowned after being flung into a dyke after being hit by a car on his way home. The inquest heard evidence from a Li…

Source: Liverpool Echo Well done to those officers. I understand why such a big fuss is being made about it but officers do this kind of thing everyday. It should be reported more often! I'm very glad the child is ok and if it wasn't for those officers, he might not be here today.
