I've had an invite on DutySheet (which has now expired but I've only just gone active) for up to 3 shifts over that weekend. Has anyone done this before and would like to comment on the types of incidents that might crop up? Only I know it's so busy it takes about 45 mins to walk from one end of the marina to the other. Ta.

With the announcement today of the final round of promotions, Cumbria has now fully implemented the national rank structure and we have a new supervisory team in place. A great deal of work went into planning and organising this and also in persuading Chief Officers that it was the right thing to do, the last three years work has reaped great benefits from a 40% increase in performance to a winning the Ferrers Trophy team award. I'm looking forward to now developing the management team and improving Cumbria Special Constabulary even further. Martin

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-12073383 There will be a crackdown on people planning to join a festive tradition of walking on a Cumbrian viaduct. The Christmas and Boxing Day walks along Arnside Viaduct when passenger trains do not run have grown in popularity. But Network Rail and the British Transport Police are warning people not to make the attempt this year or risk being prosecuted and fined. It was dangerous as maintenance trains could be on the line, they said. 'Inherently dangerous' Supt Pete Mason, from British Transport Police, said: "It has gained in popularity and we are aware now that last year it culminated in a couple of hundre…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-11956823 Community police officers in a south Cumbria town now have their own base. The Neighbourhood Policing Team that covers Barrow Island and the central areas of the town has moved to a "one stop shop" on Dalton Road. It brings the team of twelve under the same roof as neighbourhood wardens, the local crime and disorder reduction partnership and Furness Enterprise. The move aims to give officers a more visible presence in the town, and share information more effectively. The office will be open to members of the public who want help or advice on community issues. However, the police station on Market Street will rem…

As soon as I heard about this incident, my thoughts went to the officers who were first on the scenes of these horrendous incidents, and the call takers, and command staff who had to try and make sense of all of the calls as they came into the force. You all have my respect, for what must have been a truly terrible day at work. My congratulations for the professionalism you all showed.

Force is predicting £7m shortfall Cumbria Police is facing a shortfall of more than £7m over the next five years, new figures have revealed. The force is to implement a range of efficiency savings in an effort to cope with expected cuts in central government and council tax funding. There are no immediate plans to cut the number of frontline officers, but there are doubts over future number of Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs). Cumbria Police Authority chair Ray Cole said the situation was "challenging."
