Cressida Dick will become the Met's first female commissioner The new commissioner of the Met Police has chosen to be paid more than £40,000 a year less than her predecessor, the mayor of London has revealed. Cressida Dick was offered £270,648 plus benefits, the same as Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, but instead will receive a salary of £230,000. Sadiq Khan said he was "looking forward" to working with her when she formally begins the role on 10 April. No reason has been given as to why she has decided to take a smaller salary. A gun that was found by a child in a children’s play area in west London has been seized by police. Five charged over asylum teen attack 3 April 2017 From the section London Five people have been charged over an attack on a teenage asylum seeker at a bus stop in south London, police say. The Kurdish-Iranian victim was chased and subjected to a "brutal attack" which left him with a fractured skull and blood clot. A planned 3,000-person drinking trip on inflatable dinghies on a city centre river has been criticised by police. The River Tyne Booze Cruise is based on the Finnish Kaljakellunta, meaning "beer floating". This is "what England needs", organisers said. They said alcohol quantities would be "regulated". Northumbria Police said they were concerned about people drinking a "significant amount of alcohol" in vessels that were not "appropriate".
