Two Sussex police officers have been charged with assault. Eastbourne-based PC Robert Rangeley, 35, and Lewes-based PC Paul Bridger, 32, are both accused of assault occasioning ABH. The charges relate to an incident in South Street, Eastbourne, where paramedics treated a man aged 33 for a head injury in the early hours of 5 January. The man was taken to hospital for with injuries to his head, face and hand. Paul Gladwell, 38, of Colchester, was detained by staff at Pontins in Pakefield, Suffolk, on 14 February. He was then arrested by police on suspicion of assault and became ill on his way to custody. A young girl is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being bitten by a dog in Kent. The attack happened in the Jenkins Dale area of Chatham at 17:26 BST. The girl, who police said was of "toddler age", was taken to a London hospital in a critical condition. The dog was shot dead by police firearms officers. Armed police shot dead two pitbull-type canines in Queens Park in Bolton on Sunday. Armed officers were deployed to Queen's Park in Chorley New Road, Bolton, at 10:20 GMT on Sunday after reports that six dogs were dangerously out of control. A 60-year-old woman had been bitten on the hand and a man was bitten on the leg, Greater Manchester Police said.
