Patrick Gibbins was nicknamed "Pat the Cat" by his colleagues in Scotland Yard's Flying Squad because he survived so many battles with violent criminals unscathed. A familiar figure in London policing during the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies, Gibbins investigated armed robbers and gangs including the Richardsons, who ruled swathes of the South London underworld. Gibbins twice won the British Empire Medal. The first awarded after the capture in 1964 of Walter Probyn an armed robber and habitual escapee whose exploits captivated the newspapers of the Fifties and Sixties. The second award followed six years later. Probyn had broken out of prison for the 15th time when G…

Detectives have begun an investigation into allegations of fraud involving the Police Federation of England and Wales. Federation officials said they asked Surrey Police to investigate after identifying what they described as "potential fraudulent activity". As the news emerged, the federation - which represents most police officers - separately confirmed that its vice-chairman, Will Riches, had resigned. No reason has been given for Mr Riches' resignation. No one has been arrested. Mr Riches, a constable with London's Metropolitan Police, had held the position since May 2014 when he lost the chairmanship of the federation on the toss of a coin. H…

Everyone seems to be a target including paramedics, one paramedic had a "noxious substance" thrown at her as she responded to an emergency call, in Tottehnam north London. Utter madness

High street coffee shops could become “makeshift” police stations in future as Scotland Yard plans to axe 243 buildings and meeting points in a drive to save cash, it was claimed today. Mayor Sadiq Khan has announced plans to close 40 police stations as well as dozens of neighbourhood officers and public contact points in libraries and supermarkets because few people visit them. Instead, he has proposed local ward officers should hold “community contact sessions” in “convenient locations” for the public. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/high-street-coffee-shops-could-become-makeshift-police-stations-in-scotland-yards-drive-to-save-cash-a3591901.h…
