More than half of all police forces in England and Wales have told the BBC the number of officers having to take long-term sick leave because of mental health problems has been increasing over the last six years. 5 live Investigates has spoken to officers struggling to cope with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) brought on by some of the disturbing things they've experienced during the course of their job. Police budget cuts have left the Isle of Man "open to exploitation" from UK drug gangs, the Manx chief constable has told a parliamentary committee. Gary Roberts told Tynwald that budget cuts in 2012 left the island with only six officers dedicated to drug crime. He said it meant Isle of Man Police's ability to deal with class A drugs was "not what it should be". However, he added that his officers had still "done exceptionally well" and "achieved a high number of seizures". In his annual report, published in July, Mr Roberts highlighted a rise in drug offences on the island and stated that he did not "believe that we are doing enough". Accor…

You’re a traffic officer dealing with the nasty job of sweeping up a crash when a member of the public approaches and asks – what you perceive to be – a stupid question. It takes a great deal of restraint not to tell said member of the public to, let’s be frank, do one. But you’re a police officer. You smile, answer their query and get on with doing your job – no matter how challenging that job is. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/news/opinion-crash-scene-tweets-reveal-a-dark-insight-into-modern-policing/ar-BBFU0bj?li=AAmiR2Z&MSCC=1512053232&ocid=spartandhp

It's good that HMIC accepts that all NPAS delivers is cost saving and not a better service. Regarding coverage, about a year ago when base closures were announced there was an image going round on twitter that showed that lots of the country won't be in easy reach…
