A retired police inspector has been convicted of making indecent images of children following a National Crime Agency investigation. 6 September 2019 David Mortimer, 58, was convicted on 5 September 2019 following a four day trial at Kingston Crown Court. He had been arrested by NCA officers at his home in Barnet, London, on 4 July 2018. Officers seized his laptop which contained a 30-minute long Category A (the most serious) sexual abuse video of a south east Asian girl. A man who hid a handgun with a silencer under his garden hot tub has been jailed following a National Crime Agency investigation. 6 September 2019 Dean Kirby, 31, from Manchester, who has now been convicted for the third time in 13 years for firearms offences, was sentenced to eight years and four months for possessing a firearm and other crimes including burglary and theft of a car. A man who was found with 60 firearms in his car has admitted gun smuggling, after a National Crime Agency investigation. 6 September 2019 Irish national Robert Keogh, 37, was stopped at 5am on Friday 2 August this year by Border Force officers at the Port of Dover en route from Calais. Keogh left the UK through Dover several days earlier. He told officers he was returning from Europe and had “just been driving around”. A corrupt agency worker at the Port of Tilbury has been jailed for 14 years and five months after pleading guilty to assisting offenders to import or supply cocaine. 5 September 2019 Michael Fowler, 60, from Stanford-Le-Hope, Essex, was arrested by National Crime Agency officers following an investigation into a number of drug importations which went through the port between January and July 2015. An international investigation has resulted in the largest ever seizure of heroin in the UK, denying vast sums of money to organised crime groups. 4 September 2019 Nearly 1.3 tonnes of the class A drug were recovered from a container ship, the MV Gibraltar, after it docked at the port of Felixstowe on 30 August. The confiscation order was granted in 2018, after Khan, 44, bought a £412,000 house with money he claimed had been won with 123 prize-winning tickets in the Pakistan lottery. Khan made the purchase in his elderly father’s name, but it was actually Kashaf Khan who was the real purchaser of the property.
