BARMY rules that stop cops saving lives will be scrapped under the Tories, they will pledge today. Health and safety laws mean officers are prevented from helping members of the public — in case they put their OWN lives at risk. Shadow Home Secretary David Davis will today promise to tear up the red tape that ties cops’ hands. He will vow that the Tories will re-write health and safety rules in power. They will give public safety more priority than the risk to individual police officers. The promise follows a string of incidents in which police failed to act in case they breached health and safety rules. The cases include that of Stuart Horgan, 39, who shot h…

An interesting one here... http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/639845 A POLICE sergeant has been sacked for putting an officer’s helmet on an internet auction site. Mike Burnett was fired after advertising the sale on ebay. And he faced further disciplinary action after his bosses said the helmet was not sent to the highest bidder. The long-standing British Transport Police officer was also found to have brought the reputation of the force down by selling tickets for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo at a price above their face value. But today Mr Burnett said he was contesting the ruling. The officer faced three allegations in front of a misconduct panel. …

heard this today, made me laugh... Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger has been banned from motoring for a year after being convicted of drink-driving in the Canadian city of Vancouver. The 33-year-old had almost twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he was stopped by police. He had been speeding in his Lamborghini at the time, in June 2006. Speaking after leaving court, Kroeger said that "everyone makes mistakes". His lawyer, Marvin Stern, added they planned to appeal against the decision. Kroeger's defence team had argued during the trial that police officers infringed his rights in the way they took his breath test. And Mr Stern said afterwards that the …

In total 303 people were arrested for various offences including robbery, assault, burglary, prostitution and the supply of controlled drugs, as well as being in breech of bail conditions or failing to attend court. A wide range of tactics were used to target outstanding offenders, with many receiving a surprise visit to their home, from where officers return…

Parents of a 16-year-old girl "infatuated" with a man three times her age fear for her safety after she ran off with him. Lisa Wright, who went missing on her way to school, is believed to be with family friend Nigel Trowbridge, 46. She left home in Dagenham, Essex on April 28, and has twice contacted her mother Angela. Lisa called on May 9 and went home three days later but said she did not want to stay. Police have searched Trowbridge's flat where they found some of Lisa's clothes and a bottle of her perfume. There was no sign of the pair. Her family are worried about Lisa's relationship with Trowbridge. A Metropolitan police spokesman said: "We are worried…

Police will be using more stop and search powers to prevent knife crime in London, following the "horrendous events over the last 48 hours". From tonight officers will make use of searches under section 60 of the Public Order Act which allows police to search people without reasonable suspicion. The first team of 15 officers will be deployed to an unnamed London borough. It follows a rise in fatal knife attacks in London, including that of Steven Bigby, killed in the West End. The 22-year-old died from a stab wound to the chest in Oxford Street on Monday. 'Most stubborn' Figures show 68 people aged under 25 have been killed in London since the beginning of 200…

Shoplifter asks for her own Asbo Tania Hall was given an Asbo for thefts in Birmingham A convicted shoplifter is believed to be the first person to have requested her own Asbo, police have said. Twenty-year-old Tania Hall, from Birmingham, has been banned from certain roads in the city's Erdington area for the next two years. She told the city's magistrates the anti-social behaviour order would help prevent her committing further crimes. She said being in prison over Christmas away from her family made her realise she had to stop shoplifting. Ms Hall said she knew she had to avoid Erdington to prevent her mixing with people who she had taken drugs with. Many…

judge stunned a courtroom by branding three women robbers 'a bunch of over-the-hill slappers'. Outspoken judge Timothy Nash made the remarks at Canterbury Crown Court as he sentenced the trio to three years jail each for drunkenly mugging a man for his wallet in the Kent city. The judge has previously attracted attention for branding the Home Office "totally incompetent" over deportation and for dubbing Asbos "namby pamby". Drunks: Alison Raines, Melanie Coombs and Lorraine Hallett He spoke out again yesterday as Melanie Coombs, 39, Lorraine Hallett, 37, and Alison Raines, 41, were caged after they admitted robbing reveller James McCabe on January 19. All three h…

The number of police officers wounded in shootings has increased by 60% in four years, according to figures released by the Conservatives. The statistics, which cover officers in England and Wales shot while on duty, show the number rose from 12 in 2002/03 to 19 in 2006/07. Shadow Home Office minister David Ruffley said the figures showed the Government was failing "to tackle the scourge of gun crime". He said: "With the trade in illegal weapons soaring through porous borders, ministers are presiding over a service with falling number of armed officers. Now we see a rise in the number of police getting injured in the line of duty. "This is yet another consequence of L…
