A 12-year grammar school girl was held by police for more than an hour and questioned on suspicion of shoplifting after trying on nail polish on one finger in a shop. Hannah Gilbert painted one fingernail in the peach coloured Revlon varnish at a branch of Boots in Folkestone, Kent, after failing to find a suitable tester. THE HEAD of Cheshire Police will be the next Chief Constable of Greater Manchester. Peter Fahy, 49, had been the favourite to succeed Michael Todd. It was his second attempt to secure the post - he applied for the job as head of GMP in 2002 but was runner up to Mr Todd. The married father of four has a reputation for being outspoken. He has advocated recruiting more ethnic minority officers to tackle terrorism. In 2004 he suggested officers from ethnic minorities should be promoted ahead of white colleagues. Man died 'urinating on live rail' A man was killed at a busy railway station when he reportedly urinated on the track. British Transport Police confirmed the 41-year-old was electrocuted at Vauxhall station in south London last week. He walked on to the track from Platform 1, a BTP spokesman said. According to reports, the Polish tourist went to find somewhere discreet to go to the toilet but his urine splashed on to the live rail. He was said to be a married teacher who was visiting the UK to improve his English. According to the old men that sit in the Court of Appeal that is about as old as them stated: 'The facts of Bieber's case, horrifying though they were", did not justify a "life means life" sentence.' The American will now serve a minimum of 37 years.

The man involved in the rooftop drama A MAN hurled bricks during a rooftop protest as police tried to arrest him.The incident happened in Brougham Terrace, Hartlepool, and the man was on the roof for almost two hours as a large crowd gathered. Uniformed officers sealed off the road between the Hartlepool Enterprise Centre, in Brougham Terrace, and Raby Road, with police tape. Mother protests over knife event An event thought to feature knife-throwing at a town festival has been changed after the mother of a stabbed girl complained. The knife-throwing, which the council said would have been an illusion, was to be held at an event in Walsall. Child knife sellers 'not jailed' No one was jailed for selling a knife to a child in England and Wales in the five years up to 2006, it has emerged. Most of the 71 people convicted of selling knives to under 16-year-olds were fined, but mostly less than £500, despite the maximum fine being £5,000. Only one person was given a community sentence, despite the maximum sentence being six months in prison. The figures, up to the end of 2006, were revealed following parliamentary questions by the Liberal Democrats. Court win for shot man's sister Mr Saunders was shot at least five times by police The sister of a barrister shot dead by police has won permission to challenge the handling of an investigation into his death. Mark Saunders, 32, died after exchanging fire with officers in Chelsea, south-west London, in May. 'Speeding driver' killed boy, 3 Joshua Venn-Howells was badly hurt in the crash and died the next day A speeding motorist ran over a three-year-old boy playing in the road and carried on his journey without stopping, a jury has been told. Darren Jenkins, 25, denies causing the death of Joshua Venn-Howells by dangerous driving in the St Mellons area of Cardiff in July last year.
