Police issue lettuce e-fit Software blamed for lettuce-haired suspect Hampshire Police have blamed dodgy software for an e-fit image of a burglary suspect with suspiciously salady hair. The man is accused of nabbing £60 from an elderly victim in Stockbridge. He was described as between 40 and 45 years old, with a round, clean-shaven face and hair fashioned entirely from lettuce leaves large round eyes. Have you seen this salad? Lettuce know if you spot him, but leaf him alone he could be dangerous. A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary told the Beeb: "While the hair on this image may not be of the best quality, it takes nothing from the overall clarity of the …

Might not Supt Greene be better off advising young criminals about their driving standards, rather than blaming police officers, or is he anxious to get promoted out of operations for GMP's Q Division?

Wiltshire deputy chief constable facing investigation One of Wiltshire's top policemen has been removed from his normal duties while what the force calls an "internal staff issue" is investigated. Mr Ainsworth joined the county's constabulary in July 2008. Before moving to Wiltshire, he had served with Kent Police for 22 years. As the Association of Chief Police Officers' spokesman on vehicle crime, he has been a…

Hello, I'm new to the forum so please forgive any faux pas. I am receiving an injury on duty pension having been medically retired in 2003. I recently received a letter from pensions branch seeking clarification as to which benefits I was receiving. I had been receiving Incapacity benefit from 2002-2004, however I came off that benefit when I took on some voluntary work (receiving mileage only), but it was work and I did not want to fall foul of the benefits police! Having informed pensions branch of this, they stated that my IOD had been reduced as I had not forwarded a letter from my accountant, nor had I provided them with a 'reason' for coming off Incapacity …

Brendan Shannon, 8, carried a live pipe bomb into his Antrim classroom. A group of former Provisional IRA bombmakers are believed to have joined dissident republicans to play a key part in the dramatic rise in attacks in Northern Ireland, according to security and military sources. The new threat comes as the head of MI5 revealed his service now has to deal with "more life-threatening investigations" in Northern Ireland than the rest of the UK. The increased violence has meant the number of agents needed to be boosted by a third, with tightly stretched resources moved from operations against Islamist terrorists. The escalation of violence in Ulster comes at a particu…
