From Daily Mail http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1369536/Fury-woman-cried-rape-sparking-major-police-hunt-handed-80-penalty-notice.html So she basically got the same fine as for parking illegally, perhaps she should also have been charged with 'stirring up racial hatred'? Or at the very least something that would show the seriousness of rape.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-12896565 Pc Ian Rees is being forced to retire under a regulation known as A19, being used to make officers with 30 years' experience or more go early. West Midlands Police Authority has said it expected in the region of 300 officers up to the rank of Chief Superintendent would be retired under the regulation at the end of the current financial year. Complete cobblers, you cannot buy experience like this, and to see CMPG effected like this is an outrage.

From Evening Standard http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23937335-ian-tomlinson-was-not-confrontational-as-police-attacked-him.do Oops, a little more bad timing I think. I'm not saying that there is corruption going on, but I'm sure if some PC was spending time in the local curry house with a person (that he knew was) being investigated by his collegues there would be alarm bells raised about it.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12915248 All 43 police forces in England and Wales are to be given powers to carry out drug tests after arrests. Pilot schemes began in 2005 and police in areas covered by 23 forces currently have the right to "test on arrest" when suspected users are held for offences such as burglary and robbery. Home Office permission is currently required for such tests but now chief constables need only notify officials. Ministers say the change will reduce "needless bureaucracy". Crime Prevention Minister James Brokenshire said: "By scrapping the requirement for police to apply for authorisation to test on arrest, we are giving officers the flexibi…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-12899083 A naked burglar who broke into the homes of two families has failed to persuade judges that his indefinite jail term was unfair. Kumar Suleman, 30, of Bolingbroke Road, Luton, was given an indeterminate sentence for public protection at Luton Crown Court in May 2008. He had admitted burglary, exposure and trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence. Judges at the Court of Appeal in London refused to overturn the sentence. Suleman was discovered by a startled householder in his bathroom on a night in October 2007, wearing only a bra he had stolen from one of the householder's daughters. He then mad…

Facebook rears its ugly head again Up to a dozen police officers are being investigated after making inappropriate comments on their Facebook sites. Their remarks include comments about wanting to beat up rioting students and describing a suspected paedophile who flashed at children in a play area as ‘a dirty scum pervert’. Another officer posted a video on the social networking site of a U.S. policeman flooring a suspect by shoving him in the neck, writing: ‘How cool is the copper!’ A policewoman colleague replied: 'I must try this move when I am out and about again! Classic!' And another post read: ‘I have to deal with human bacteria all day, every day.…

Just read this on the BBC website and couldn't believe it. The two who robbed it look a bit of a joke now, what a waste of time and money for the Police, Nationwide and the poor security guards! http://www.bbc.co.uk...-kent-12904938# I'll make sure I avoid the area today, it will be crawling with nosey people

A police dog died after falling from a roof while searching for suspected intruders at a Tyneside building. Baz, a six-year-old German Shepherd, was with officers searching the building in Gateshead when the incident happened on Thursday. Northumbria Police said Baz was due to retire from duty, which included firearms support work, the next day. Pc Gary Saunders, who had been Baz's handler since he was 10 weeks old, said the incident had left him "devastated". PC Saunders said: "The sudden and tragic death of my police dog Baz has been a devastating experience for me, my family and many close friends. "It has been one of the worst things I've encountered in 26 years…

From the Beeb, interesting bit: "Assistant Chief Constable of West Mercia Police Simon Chesterman said emergency services should "put themselves at risk"...
