https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2021/aug/26/uk-to-overhaul-privacy-rules-in-post-brexit-departure-from-gdpr Culture secretary says move could lead to an end to irritating cookie popups and consent requests online It always annoys me when people blame GDPR for these annoying consent requests. They are only required if the website is collecting personal data, why do we just assume that sites have a default right to do this and therefore "forced" to present us with these irritating notices? They can configure their website not to collect personal data, then they won't need to ask for any consent. Fair enough with some websites it's unavoidable, if I'm buying…

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-47715415 Speed limiting technology looks set to become mandatory for all vehicles sold in Europe from 2022, after new rules were provisionally agreed by the EU. Maybe a silly question but how are police chases going to work now? If the vehicle is ahead of you then you'll never catch it, assuming it goes at the maximum speed and so do you then the most you can do is remain the same distance from it that you were at the start of the chase.

Compare and contrast. A British family, who have saved all year for a holiday after long months of house arrest and general dreariness, have to interrupt their break in Portugal to go home, on the stern orders of the Government in London. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-9655359/PETER-HITCHENS-point-tourists-tests-migrants-walk-in.html Good point 👍

Paramedics to be fitted with Body Worn Cameras to help curb attacks on frontline workers https://news.sky.com/story/paramedics-to-be-fitted-with-body-worn-cameras-to-help-curb-attacks-on-frontline-workers-12322657 ———- What, in the name of sanity, has the country come to when the Ambulance service have to wear BWV to protect themselves and their colleagues when helping people medically? I get the need for Police BWV - despite the obvious policy-creep and the reliance on it (as we all knew it would). BWV does prevent offences and spurious complaints. Being assaulted and involved in confrontation is part of the job, despite what the lefty-loons and ‘Pol…

Uncovered: the brutal secrets of UK deportation flight Esparto 11 https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/may/29/asylum-seekers-risked-all-to-get-to-the-uk-then-they-were-deported-at-dawn — The adjectives are wonderful in this gutter piece. Describing lawful, home-office approved compliance and restraint techniques - particularly where there’s preservation of life and someone actually trying to kill themselves. You’ve got to love ‘investigative journalism’. I should have known by the twisted narrative that it would be written by ‘Liberty’ 😅

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/may/25/gchqs-mass-data-sharing-violated-right-to-privacy-court-rules Human rights judgment follows legal challenge begun in 2013 after Edward Snowden’s whistleblowing revelations. The UK spy agency GCHQ’s methods for bulk interception of online communications violated the right to privacy and the regime for collection of data was unlawful, the grand chamber of the European court of human rights has ruled. I'm interested in hearing officers views on this kind of subject. First of all how did you feel about the surveillance revelations when they came out, both from a personal perspective and a policing one? Do y…
