    PC Paul Briggs was injured in a crash on his way to work for Merseyside Police Doctors should stop providing life-support treatment to a police officer who has been in a minimally conscious state since 2015, a judge has ruled. Paul Briggs, 43, suffered a brain injury in a crash on his way to work for Merseyside Police. His wife Lindsey had told the Court of Protection treatment should be stopped "given his previously expressed wishes" and he should be allowed to die.     An investigation is under way after a man was found dead in a van, days after police were reportedly contacted over concerns for the vehicle. David Penman's body was found in the van by police in Dunipace, Stirlingshire, on 15 December. The Scottish Daily Express reported that a member of the public told police that the van had been parked there for an "unusual period of time".     A police officer has been filmed "punching" a member of the public he was trying to arrest. The man had been found lying on the ground in Newhaven town centre in East Sussex at about 18:30 GMT on Friday. Ch Insp Rosie Ross of Sussex Police said: "We are aware of the video. The victim, aged 50, was stabbed 10 times and spent weeks in hospital recovering from his injuries.     Police have used a "covert lorry" to spy on drivers using their phones. Thames Valley Police caught 12 drivers on the A34 and M40 in Oxfordshire using phones on a single day during the operation. It comes after a lorry driver was sentenced to four years for killing a family-of-four by getting distracted when using his phone on the A34.
