What happens when things go wrong. So far there is huge criticism of a fatal Police shooting. It appears that Intelligence was way out of date, and that there was apparent incompetence by the people in charge. PC Paul Briggs was injured in a crash on his way to work for Merseyside Police An injured policeman whose wife won a legal battle to end his life support has died. Paul Briggs, 43, suffered a brain injury in a crash on his way to work for Merseyside Police and had been in a minimally conscious state for 18 months. A judge ruled in December that Gulf War veteran PC Briggs should go on to a palliative care regime at a hospice. Paul's wife Lindsey, 40, said her family was "devastated" by his death. Merseyside's Chief Constable Andy Cooke said PC Briggs' death was a tragedy. The force is flying the flag at half mast in his honour, he a…

A YEAR ago I found myself chatting to a Police Detective. Third generation of her family in the service but leaving on mental health grounds. I listened and what I found was a force at a dangerously low ebb, says Nick Knowles “Everyone hates the Police” she stated. I laughed and said that’s plainly not true, it’s just something people say, but she insisted. http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/life/755346/police-need-our-support Nothing new to any serving officers but worth a read just the same, well done Nick Knowles.

Cumbria Police is recruiting police staff investigators who could be CID-trained or retired officers to work specifically on "non-recent allegations" An unprecedented rise in the number of historical sex crime allegations has forced a police force to recruit extra staff. High-profile prosecutions have led to a huge increase in the number of people reporting abuse to Cumbria Constabulary, it said. Det Ch Supt Andy Slattery said the rise had been about 25% in each of the past two years. "It's a huge increase, a huge burden for us," he said. "But what it does show is that people have got the confidence to come forward and report things. …

Vital" police community support officers (PCSOs) and special constables are being recruited by a police force. Cleveland Police said additional funding from the police and crime commissioner would pay for 34 extra posts this year and next. Twenty special constables and 15 PCSOs were hired last year. Deputy Chief Constable Simon Nickless said they "play a vital role" in keeping neighbourhoods safe and it was "a demanding but hugely rewarding" job. Police and crime commissioner Barry Coppinger said the investment showed a "continuing commitment to neighbourhood policing". The new recruits will work alongside regular police officers and be…
