Has anyone had any recent experiences of terminal 5? With the security level raised how long is it likely to take getting through security?

I am flying to America and was just trying to plan a safe time to arrive at the airport!

I fly through T5 all the time - nothing much changed - allow about 2 hours from arrival to gate - that way you have time for a coffee etc and no stress!

It should be as normal - just make sure your electronics are charged up should they be checked!

What time are you flying? Are you taking checked baggage?

If its early morning then about 2 hours is probably a safe bet, the early morning short-haul operation can make bag drop desks and security a bit of a nightmare. Generally long haul departures leave from the B or C hubs rather than the main building itself so plan to give yourself time to get across there via the transit tunnel/train, normally 15 minutes is enough but best to be a bit early at the gate.

If its a late morning/early afternoon departure then an hour and twenty minutes or so is probably sufficient, but bare in mind desks close at T-45, you have to be through security by T-35 or you'll fail 'conformance' and be automatically offloaded.
