Kindle Fire HD help

Hi all - has anyone managed to copy videos over to the device? If so, where do they appear? Under "Videos" it just displays the 'shop' and not the videos I just copied in.

I converted several TV episodes to MP4 (800x400, H.264) and copied them to the \Video folder on the Kindle, but I can't seem to find them on the device.

Also, I've installed Google Chrome but the option to sign into my account (and therefore have access to all my bookmarks etc) isn't available; I click "Add a Google Account" but the message returned is "You have not yet set up a Google Account on this device" - pressing either Cancel or Continue just returns me to the setting screen. I've added a Gmail account but I can't see anything more to do with Google...

Any ideas please?

Does a Kindle run on Android software?
yea, but it's very heavily customised.

What was your solution?

So far I have converted the file to a supported type and copied it over to the correct folder. However it doesn't appear on the Kindle under Videos (it seems to just show the store).

Also, where does the dictionary appear? It isn't shown on the 'ribbon' thing but when I search fro Dictionary I can open it. How do I get it permanently on the 'ribbon' front screen?

What was your solution?

Is it still within the return timeframe, if so send it back, buy a Nexus 7 and install the Kindle App. It will do everything the Kindle will and a whole lot more.

Another thing to try.

Install MX Player (seems to play most things)(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad) and a file explorer (ES File Explorer)(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop).

Assuming these programs will work in the hacked version of Android you should have a means of finding the files and playing them.

The problem I have with my Kindle Fire HD is not as technical as those listed above, but for me is still mightily irritating.

Basically, I can never seem to find the on/off button or the up/down volume controls as they are on one of the sides and are not at all obvious.

So I end up rotating the blasted thing multiple times to try and find one of these wretched seemingly invisible buttons.

  • 2 weeks later...

I know what you mean. I don't think it's laid out as logically as the iPad for example, I miss the physical home button.

I can't return it, it was a gift from my wife :)
