19 month old pinching

Hi, I don't normally need to ask things like this but I have a bit of a problem with my 19 month old daughter.

She has always been extremely strong willed and if she really wants to do something it is almost impossible to stop her.

She is really into climbing at the moment and is often in places where she potentially puts herself in danger. I used to just pick her up, pull her away and say "no, dangerous" but she went into such a paddy that she probably didn't understand (she does have excellent understanding and vocabulary, she can talk in short sentences already and copies all spoken words).

She is now starting to stop doing things when I ask her without actually having to physically intervene. However, as soon as she stops she now runs over to me and pinches me hard wherever she can before running away again. I have told her "no, pinching is bad. Pinching hurts" but now I struggle to keep a straight face whenever I know she is going to do it and she thinks it has become a game :(

I used to pull my mums hair at that age.

She would hold my hair and pull back.

I quickly learned that if I didn't pull her hair my hair didn't get pulled.

Tough love.

(Bear in mind to her you will be an impregnable tower of stone, a veritable superhuman and she won't think she would be capable of hurting you)

She's angry, you spoilt her fun, so you need to distract her as soon as you tell her 'No'. So next time say 'No! Look what I've got, let's do this' and reach for the nearest thing and spend five or ten minutes with her. Could be anything - playing with the nearest toy, colouring, singing etc etc.

In time she'll forget to pinch you when you spoil her fun. But may move on to hair pulling / headbutting the floor (my son!) / screaming - you name it! So just repeat above until the phase passes.

Good luck

Merlin is quite right. Diversionary tactics, every time with 2 year olds. 'Terrible two's', eh? I remember them well!

Thank you all, she's already resorted to headbutting the floor some time back :(

She had a huge tantrum this morning, worst ever. I think it's a full moon though.

Or a cage? You could even put wheels on it and pull it round the supermarket.
