Untaxed Car on my street

ok so there is a ford fiesta on my street that hasn't been moved for months (wheels have cobwebs and lots of debris build up in them), VED disc ran out in June 2012 and has a few possessions in the rear of it.

I am in two minds whether or not to just report it online to DVLA and hope they have just not bothered with it.

or call it in on 101 to check welfare of the RO of the vehicle.

The possessions in the rear of the car are fairly valuable and i cant see why they would just leave them on plain view for months.

what would you do?

Nothing. The car is not harming anyone if not in use?

It's untaxed and on a public road. Call the DVLA and report it.

besides taking up a already valuable car parking space for those that you know...pay their VED.

i plan to.

i'd just hate it if it turned out the RO had kicked the bucket unnoticed!

There used to be a form (in a red booklet) CLE2/6 to report VEL expired/not displayed and you used to be able to leave the owner a copy on the windscreen. Is it still used?

I would report it, because it's on the road illegally. Having said that, the presence of possessions does raise serious concerns in my mind about the owner, you should definitely report it for that reason if nothing else.

No, anyone can do it.

If a vehicle does not have tax then it is a shed and belongs in a garden and not on a road.

Report to the DVLA.

There was an issue with an untaxed vehicle for a while in my street. The car was effectively 'off the road'. Trouble was, our street is unadopted and is still effectively a private road despite looking like any other street you might drive into. The car wasn't being driven by the owner, he just couldn't be bothered to dispose of it expeditiously.

Personally, I'd report it soonest, If anything, to check the owner is alive and well!

Give the council a bell, too - if they're anything like ours they'll get it lifted.
