Parents wedding licence show my grandfather ( never met him) as a police Sargent. I belve my parents were Ayrshire area . Grandfather name was Thomas Gilmour born ?? Perhaps 1920... Died 1983 or maybe 1984. I emailed the police force one day to ask if they would be willing to show me a photo of my grandfather as. I have never saw him or the grandmother but they said privacy issues prevented . I was on a roots forum today and someone suggested I email in here in case anyone knows or could get a photo or info. I am just learning Genioligy and trying to learn who my family was. There are people who can help I think but until I find them ... I have no where else to ask Thank you
Guest
I'll let this stand as it seems harmless enough. In answer to your question Gwen, you'd be far better off contacting NARPO (National Association of Retired Police Officers), they have branches in most (if not all) police areas in the UK and may, you never know, have current members that knew your grandfather. http://www.narpo.org.uk/

He passed away some 28 years ago, and they pull privacy issues on you?!? If I can obtain my Grandfathers full Army service record from WW2, I cannot see why privacy becomes an issue? E29NP1546080952 1,383
Narpo emailed me today an said no record of him and Ayrshire wouldn't help saying privacy issues. I will try ipa today . Many thanks If possible, can you explain exactly what they said regarding these " privacy issues " When you say Ayrshire wouldn't help you, I presume you mean Strathclyde Police. As Ayrshire Constabulary ceased to exist in 1975. Edited July 23, 2012 by pmtts
