sunny125 0
As a victim, I would like to say thank you to the guys who helped me in my case. What options do I have to do that with the police force? Im asking here because I've heard the giving gifts to police is not straight forward. So, I can't just drop of a box(huge box) of chocs at the front desk with a card, or can I ? What about writing a letter thanking the detective in charge of my case, who do I address it to, the chief of the police station? Any help, appreciated. cheers
Sam Vimes 0
Write a letter to the District Supt and drop it into the Police Station. The letter will be read by him/her, then passed to whoever is the department boss of whoever dealt with your case. Just write the letter saying who it was you wish to thank and what they did for you. The letter will probably get copied to HR and a copy put on his file as evidence of good-work. There is no problem with also dropping a card and a box of chocolates personally addressed to whoever dealt with your case either and asked front counter staff to pass them on. I'm sure they will welcome the thanks; it's incredibly rare that anyone bothers to write in except to complain these days.
Fox 1,213
Write a letter expressing your gratitude to the chief constable, naming the officers. Our weekly General Orders has a 'letters of appreciation' section where the expressions of thanks are summized and posted for everyone to see. (our SNT corridor also has loads of cards stuck to the wall)
English pig 0
How nice of you to take the time to want to do this. If it was dealt with by Met Police, you can simply address your letter to the borough commander of the borough (details on the Met website) who took your crime report, naming the officer who dealt with you in your letter. If its any other force, you can go onto their website where you should be able to pass on your comments via the contact us/leave feedback options. Hope all works out ok for you. sunny125 0
Thanks for the feedback, just need to clear up on more item, whats the general policy on gifts? I know I suggested the box of chocolates, thats the top of my head.
Sam Vimes 0
You can buy gifts, but anything more than a box of chocolates or a bunch of flowers would probably end up having to be delcared or returned with a "Thanks for the gesture, but....". Each force has a 'register' in which officers need to declare any gifts. Honestly though, a thank you card and a box of Quality Street to share in the office is more than anyone would ever expect as a thank you for doing their job.
Milankovitch + 3,445
I know some forces have a section on their website where you can submit praise, might be worth checking the relevants force website.

crunchybits1546080791 400
Just to echo that a person who takes the time to sit down and write a letter in this busy day and age to say thank you is always well received especially if it goes to the Borough Commander/Superintendent naming the officer concerned. Krispy Kreme's are also always welcome. Last year post the extreme shopping event one of the local businesses owners was joking with me that having given the response team personalised chocolates to say thanks they had to work the following Sunday to keep up with the sudden rush of customers - the chocolates were that scrumptious.... The Manc 0
You'd more than likely make the officers' day. I know recognition like that would (and has) made mine.
Dave SYP + 2,963
A very kind and thoughtful gesture. The officer/s concerned will be very grateful that you have taken the time to thank them. It means such a lot when someone takes the time to say thanks.
