marksie1988 + 18
Hi Guys, In a bit of a mess at the moment, my company recently figured out that i want to join the police full time when recruitment opens, they were aware of my status in the special constabulary and have never been too happy about it. Anyway since they found out that I want to join the police full time they have stopped all of my development and training, this means that even if I don't get into the police for 3/4 years I will have no further training which in the IT Industry is a huge issue. I cant afford to pay for the training myself as my wage isn't great anyway and I have a house and car to pay for, I guess I am looking for some advice and knowledge from anyone who has been in a similar situation. I am now stuck in a rut and don't really know what I should do as if i don't get into the police I would have no qualifications to continue my IT career. I know that at the moment I am lucky to have a job and for that I am greatfull but when all the other staff are progressing in there roles and getting training paid for it puts a real downer and is making it hard for me to be motivated at work. Do you think I should be looking for a new job? Cheers Steve :new_hmmm:

SCChiefDurham 177
I would raise a grievance and let them prove you arent being discrminated against due to being a special.

It shouldn't matter if you're considering leaving, you should not be stopped from development. You should have serious words with your HR department and possible consider speaking to an Employment Lawyer to see where you legally stand. marksie1988 + 18
The main issue is that I work for a small business only 30 staff so the issue is that we don't have HR and the guy that has done this is the finance director! They found out due to one of my colleagues talking about it with me and a manager overhearing.

If you're employer is being unreasonable a lawyer may be your best port of call.
