does anyone have any experience with these? im considering moving gyms...

i can see a mass of complaints online for virgin active (formerly esporta, at least in the case of the gym im looking to join anyways) about trying to cancel 12 month contracts, but that seems to be with all gyms...

is it any good?

I used to be with Virgin active and I found the gym and service to be brilliant. I was told I could cancel my contract at any time before the 17TH of the month and then I would not be charged for that month and my contract would be canceled. The gym was clean and the machines were wiped down after use. I stopped going to the particular gym as I moved to a different area and then I have failed to join another one since. Need to have a look into which one is my local.

Hope this helps,

MAXCOP

I'm with Virgin Active and no complaints from me. I think the termination/fixed period depends on what type of contract you choose.... I have the 12 month contract because it was cheaper than the more flexible contract which could be cancelled at any time. I've used a couple of their gyms as my membership allows and all have been really good. Staff are very helpful and friendly. My only complaint would be the poorly used "women only" areas in some gyms... especially when the equipment in other parts of the gym are full, and being used by women, whilst the women only area stands empty!

Why not do what I do and pay and just walk in no questions asked..? Or is that only at some gyms?

No, I mean why spend money and go to one like that when you can go to a cheap £5 one with the same equipment and £2 shakes etc.. No hassle and unlimited time you are aloud to spend there. this is the one I went to with my freind who lives in cheshunt - It is the same as any good gym but cheaper and less people.

Virgin Active do day passes but they are usually very expensive!

It costs a lot but I've found them to be very good, loads of equipment, lots of staff very pleasant changing rooms etc. I presume it happens at all VA gyms but I got a free training consultation when I started and it appears you get another free one every 3 months or so. Which equates to a free personal trainer session where they come up with a program for you to follow for the next 3 months.

I used to be a member of Virgin Active, and loved the gym - it was bright and clean and spacious with great facilities.

Unfortunately, it did come with a hefty price tag, and I had to end up cancelling my membership as I just couldn't afford it.

Had no issues with customer service or cancelling my membership - they were always polite and helpful.

Am I missing something that one seems to be £5 a visit as a guest, I'm pretty happy with my gym although I do need to go more shifts etc and other excuses

£25 a month and free advice as well as cheap supplements can't be bad
