AndrewZinc 5
Dear PS.com know-it-alls, I lead at a childrens' camp every Summer and have been asked to organise water / bottle rockets as an activity. We did have a kit in my family as a child with nozzle, fins and things but I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get kits cheaply (online seems to be about £10 + p&p) and also, would it be possible to make the kits myself? Thanks, --- Andrew.
GordonH 787
If you mean what I think you do, you just need a 2 ltr coke bottle, some rag and a foot pump. 1. Put water in the bottle about 1/3rd full. 2. Soak the rag, place it over the footpump nozzle and stick it into the top of the bottle (the wet rag makes a better seal). 3. Get someone to hold the bottle pointing up with the hole at the bottom, hold on tight. 4. Start pumping the footpump until the person holding the rocket can't hold on and it launches. Everyone gets covered in water, laughs all round, recover the bottle and start again. Ryan27 1
I had an idea about this plane. If you made it big enough, the shape would lend itself beautifully to beeing fitted with a water rocket. That should get it up to 50 or 100 feet, then you can glide along with elevons (mote like ailevators in this case), just like the real thing. A 3L or staged one would be awesome. I think the best would be a 3 stage hybrid (stages temain together), with a 1.25L initiator (to get you going on the runway), a triple 1.25L booster (to get you to takeoff speed and let you nose up past stall), and a 3L sustainer (to keep it going up). The hybrid stager would be difficult, but epic, and could likely attain 150+ feet. Making the initiator a true stage could help. Imagine pulling a cord, having your plane essentially bungee launch itself, but be entirely self contained (except for the small sideways launchpad), rocket up nice and high, then glide back down under your control. Again, similar to the X-wing, this is a goal for me, but my lack of flying experience is problematic. So, does this sound feasible, and do any of you feel inspired today and figure it would be fun to try?
