But I noticed that it has lost the new car smell, what I did was buy ford focus carpets (ones that had been sitting in the showroom for a while so they accumulate the new car smell then I put the heater on in the car but have the heat coming out from the footrest (rather than blowing towards you) and it helps bring the new car smell back, though I did notice that as soon as I got the carpets dirty (mud/rain) the smell faded, though obviously the new car smell is the leather, the carpet idea is the closest that I have got to the original smell. Although the wife keeps telling me that's wasteful, so now I take the windscreen wipers and brakelight bulbs out first and make sure I only burn it once I've used all the fuel. Administrative Account 7 Posted May 9, 2011 Share Posted May 9, 2011 New car smell is caused by the plastics used in the car letting off fumes, not by any products used in valeting it etc. It's actually not very good for you as I understand it! In my experience the air freshener with the closest smell to 'new car smell' is this one made by Chemical Guys. The bottle lasts forever as the smell is very long lasting. You just give it a squirt direct into the carpet in the footwell in an area out of sight (it hasn't ever stained for me, but better safe than sorry). TallGuy1546081014 + 557 Posted May 9, 2011 Share Posted May 9, 2011 And as the plastics heat up the vapours carry up on to the windscreen and leave a deposit which on the first morning with high humidity causes moisture to build up on the screen.
