Sony Bravia LCD TV

Good evening, my TV recently (last night) had a run in with a door, or more a door fell on it knocking it to the floor... The resulting problem is that it won't switch on... There is no visible damage at all and daft as it sounds there are no rattling bits, yes I did pick it up and shake it. I've heard that these TV (Sony Bravia LCD 32") do occasionally just not switch on however I'm stumped trying to find out a cure.

Has anyone had a similar issue???? Rather than claim from house insurance and/or pay a repair guy lots of cash does anyone know of any fixes or easy reapir jobs that can be done?

Thanks

Thinking of it with my 'computer' head on it could be something simple, but just as easily something more complicated.

I am sure someone will come up with a list of probable causes but at the end of the day it's not designed to be knocked on to the floor so it could be anything, although I suspect a circuit board or two might have been damaged. If it was on when it got knocked then a internal fuse could have blown.

If it's an LCD TV then I guess it's not that old and if you have home insurance give them a ring - after all that's what you pay your premium for.

I proper repair by Sony won't come cheap!

  • 2 weeks later...

Could be a dry solder joint somewhere on the circuit board.

Have you tried some gentle battering in different places (not the screen) to see if you get any signs of life?

I'd ring your insurance company!

My 2 year old son smashed my 40" Sony with a toy 2 days before this years world cup so I had to claim. I got a 42" Panasonic which has far better spec and my house insurance (with the same company) went DOWN by £5 per month!

Thanks for replies....

There is absolutely nothing at all no light, no noise, B*&%(£ all

I have tried gentle persuasion smiley_strop.gif and do you know what even a lot of swearing had no effect!!!mad.gif

The insurance were very good about it, they still have been having given me a new TV... they assured me they would ring and take the excess payment, then told me the firm I was collecting it from would take the payment, then the firm I collected it from said another firm would take the excess.... Needless to say there has been no excess payment taken... Does this 1) make me a criminal? 2) lucky? 3) incriminating my self by putting it on a Police forum...whistling.gifrolleyes.gif

I actually tried the typical man thing of getting out the tool box and screwdriver... then realised I could only see one screw head.... the things 40" across, how the hell is it held together??????? Anyway sod it, it's manual work, I'm getting a man in thumbsup.gif

Cheers for the input guys
