hertsguy1989 6
My laptop is running on windows 7 but I am wondering if I can also run xp on it as an option as my scanner only works with xp You could dual boot but that can turn out a bit tricky. How about try using a Virtual Machine? - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=28C97D22-6EB8-4A09-A7F7-F6C7A1F000B5&displaylang=en You can just install your copy of XP and run it concurrently whilst using Windows 7 - It should allow you to use you scanner if you install the driver in the virtual machine and scan from there. Also which version of Windows 7 do you use? If you're using Professional or Ultimate they both have the ability to switch into Windows XP mode which theoretically should allow you to run any program that needs a Windows XP Environment. PM me if you need any more help. Isn't it possible to find an up to date driver for the scanner to allow it to work with Win 7? Depends how old the scanner is. Some companies don't release updated drivers if the hardware is rather old otherwise they would constantly need software development teams creating drivers. Burnsy2023 2,895
You could dual boot but that can turn out a bit tricky. How about try using a Virtual Machine? - http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en It's much better to use a VM. Look at VMware Player, Microsoft Virtual PC or Oracle Virtualbox. Also which version of Windows 7 do you use? XP mode is basically a preconfigured VM that runs in 'headless mode' which makes you think you are running a program natively but in actual fact it's in the VM. I use this for my Canon scanner. If you need any help I'm also available, although having it in the thread could be useful for other people. I agree, using a VM is probably the best idea. Which scanner are you actually using GRADE 1? Edited November 12, 2010 by hertsguy1989

Are you getting confused by XP mode and compatibility mode? XP mode works all the time, because it IS XP.

This is the same for the other VM vendors I mentioned above

You can dual boot into XP if you partition up the hard drive or install an additional HDD. Personally I had dual boot setups.
