Oddone 39
Hello! Right my problem is I found some old memory cards during a clear out and ive opened them up to see what they contained. Finding they contained some old holiday pics ive tried to transfer them onto my PC but somehow deleted quite a lot of them! Whoops! So with the frustration of my mother bearing upon me I bought some software the can recover items from the deleted space within my PC. Jobs a good'un I thought! I downloaded the pictures using the software to my desktop and hoped that would be the end of it. Problem is though - Firstly, When I view the recoverd pictures as thumbnails they show normal and the picture is complete. However when I open the picture to few it on full screen, half or more of the picture is blocked out or distorted I assume due to a corruption. Can this be fixed? Some work absoulty fine but some appear with this distortion. Secondly, Some of them have came back in the format of just words and code im assuming binary lol Im guessing that they have gone for good? Thirdly, it had some Quicktime .3GP files on them which some work and some dont. Out of about 9 I can open and watch 3 on Quicktime without a problem. When I try and open the others a box appears saying "Error - 2048 Cannot open as Quicktime does not understand this file" Even though its still a .3GP the same as the others? Can this also be fixed?? Any help you may have would be supoib! And I am a complete novice so please bear with me if I ask stupid questions!

Strathy- + 171
I have a hatred towards quicktime when opening files, I would download a program called VLC and see if it opens with that. What program are you using to view the other photos? You don't have any image editor such as Photoshop, fireworks or anything by any chance? Scott. Javioli 57
With regard to the corrupted jpg's, this could be because you used your computer and downloaded software to it. The problem when you 'delete' a file (or several ) is that the system marks that space as 'available' leaving it open to re-use so the space where your jpg has been sitting on the hard drive will be re-used. When you 'recover' the file it's now got other bits of information not relevant to the picture. Hence the corruption. If you need to recover things from a hard drive, the first thing you do is power off, then reboot using a boot disk so the hard drive doesn't get used. This will prevent over-writing of the 'slack space' which the operating system thinks is free to use. Guest
The best place to try to recover them from, would be the memory cards (rather than the hard drive), as this is *unlikely* to have been overwritten.Install whatever recovery software you choose on to your hard drive, and then load in your memory card(s) and try to get the files back. Good luck
