SC2PC 8
Its a long story but I will keep it brief, some guy I started to work with, turned out to be not a good guy and was a lier and made me lose out on money, I wanted nothing more to do with him. So I broke ties with him. He says I owe him money which I dont, in fact I lost money because of him, so he is now trying to take me to court, with a made up sum, but he knows he will lose because its a lie. Today I got a call from his friend who is a really evil piece of work, known to the police as well, he said if I dont call his friend and pay the money he will make my life very uncomfortable, and I know he means that is it for me. What should I do? I have not finished training yet so I am not a Police Officer yet, If I ring the police there is nothing they can do untill he comes to kill me or hurt me, and it will just make him angry. I am worried because my girlfriend is having my baby and I am trying to make a good life for us and he is trying to ruin it for me and her. He even put her name as well on the claim form even though she never had anything to do with him.
hilarysa3 0
Oh, SC2PC! There are some people out there who are really not very nice (only way I could say that without the wrath of the rude-word-mods). I can't really say much as there isn't too much detail in your post. How much is the money and what are they claiming it for? Do they know you're associated with the police (about to be a special)? How do you know these people? I can understand if you don't want to give details. What a nightmare :D .
Markdn1546080917 + 128
Hi SC2PC, First of all try to remain calm, this is a very scary situation to be in but with the right actions hopefully it can be resolved. Start by keeping a log of all contact with these persons, including what is said, times, dates, method of communication. I would advise you to contact the police via their non emergency number, of course if there is immediate danger then 999! Once contact has been etablished they can advise you more. CAB might also be able to help you with the claim that the person(s) is trying to pursue. At the very least Harassment - take a look at the act for more info - http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1997/ukpga_19970040_en_1 Hope this helps, remember try and keep calm Edited May 8, 2009 by Markdn
WT 232
I'd suggest the harassment route. He'll probably get a warning and if he persists he'll get nicked.

SC2PC 8
I did not know how bad he was bad, till he brought some hair straightners, from one of his traders, I sold some turned out to be fake, so I refunded the people there money because I did not know and I felt so bad for them told him they were fake gave them back to him and said you need to return them to your trader because either he is selling fakes or this batch he got is fake and he was unaware. All in all a very stupid afair and its my fault for thinking all people have good in them, it has ruined my trust of people because I will not let him ruin my police career. Yes he knows I am a special which upset him, which in turned confirmed to me he is not a good person. I thought he was a good guy because I worked for a broker in Cornwall a year back and he was a client he offered me a really good IT job if I moved near him, which I did and it never happened each month kept telling me next month. Should I move home just in case this guy turns up with friends or what? Also while working for him for free it seems!! I should have noticed when he kept telling me about people he was sueing for money. I think this is why he is an old man with no friends you know. He is trying to clam 2.5K even though he paid 550 for the hair straightners kept most of them and the ones I had gave back when I found out they were wrong. I have had no contact with him since joining the specials and thats the way I like it. If I was a full police officer I would have no remorse in arresting him. Giraffe + 56
Intimidation in civil proceedings is an offence under the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001. That's an interesting bit of law I was unaware of! Thanks! No offence, but now that you're joining the specials, and for your own benefit as well, it's important for you to pay attention to the type of company your keeping now. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that a mate handing you some hair straighteners to flog online could be dodgy. Get the police involved now that threats have been made. Inform your trainer/Sergeant of EVERYTHING - it's far better you do this now than they find out and you get booted out of the police before your career has even started for something that sounds rather trivial in the first place. The fact that you refunded the money shows you are honest (assuming there is no more to this) and you should be fine. Let us know how you get on. SC2PC 8
I am honest and as soon as I knew something was up, I stopped all contact with him and let him know I want nothing to do with him, yeh you could say I was stupid and I should be more careful with who I hang around with. I am not that kind of guy all my friends are good people who have never been in trouble just like myself. I wont let some man who has ruined his own life ruin mine as well. I have contacted the police who said there is nothing they can do because nothing has come from it yet. So I will wait and see I will continue to live my life normally. Also if I was a bad person I would not admit on here what has been happening if I truely believe I was at fault here. Also I had no reason to think the hair straightners were wrong his company is registered and he has a VAT number and even paid VAT on the items coming into the UK from his trader, everything was done above aboard so thats why I had no reason to think anything bad, I am new to business you see and I am thinking I am bad at it so I think you can say I wont be forming any companies or doing anything of that nature ever again. Giraffe + 56
I'm not saying you're a bad person. As per my reply to your PM it sounds like you've made a bad judgment. As long as you learn from it then you should be fine. Also keep the police informed if you hear from either of these idiots again - if they are threatening you then it is a police matter. If they sue you then all I can suggest is consult a solicitor. Edited May 8, 2009 by Giraffe

Manfromatlantis 0
Some of this others have said in the previous replies Make a log of everything to date detailing all the facts and things said. Bullit point each item with dates and times of all occurences. Notify your training sergeant etc etc. Report it through normal police channels if needed at duty desk etc. Get half hour free consultation with solicitor. Dependant on advice of solicitor have letter sent to the other persons address notifying them that if they contact you through any other means than a solicitor letter this will be considered harrasement. SC2PC 8
Hi all, thanks for the advice, Police came over I had to move to London for the time being because they deemed it not safe for me to stay. I was more worried about my girlfriend who is pregnant you see. The police did say I am not at fault and they know of these two, they said not the first time they have tried to con people, I feel a bit stupid that I did not see this coming, I can be too trusting sometimes. So yeah just to let you know I am living in London and I will continue to attend training I wont let them ruin my life any further.
