I suppose as I don't have a cleaner this is DIY really.

I need a new vacuum and I am considering a GTech Airram.  Has anyone got any experience of one or any advice to give?

Happy to read any other recommendations or experiences.

Suck away...I mean...fire away.

We got a Shark the other day and it's great!

Relatively small dust capacity but tbh it's really not a bad thing to empty the container every other time you use it.

It breaks down into smaller parts depending on what you need to do with it and has a motorised brush so it sorts out the sodding cat's fur!

Reasonably priced too as I recall.

Not looked too closely at the shark as I'd like a cordless one but I don't believe theirs is, is it?

We have a GTech vacuum, not the latest model quoted though but the one before. Probably the best vacuum we've ever had if that is any recommendation.

No not cordless, but a very decent cord length.

Cheers @Indiana Jones.  I did take another look at them online and I can see they do some cordless cleaners but I don't think these are in any way as big and robust as the gtech or the dyson cordless ones.

My problem is that here as Cheetah Towers it's a three storey house, sounds grand but the third is a loft conversion and the stairs up to the office are narrow and steep(ish) hence why I am very tempted by cordless.  My current vacuum is an Oreck but it's getting old now and isn't quite as good as it was, plus it has a cord, a very long one but a cord none the less.

The problem is that it's a good chunk of cash and likely something I'll have for some time so I need to be sure before I commit.

At present it's still looking like the Gtech AirRam MK2 for £200

I set my Grandma's up for her, and by that I mean I got it out the box. Very easy to use, charge lasts a decent while and it barely weighs anything so it's easy to carry up the stairs.

The gran is now obsessed with Gtech stuff and went and bought the cordless lawn mower which is perfect for the size garden she has.

Would definitely recommend the hoover. She has the first one so I'm sure the MK2 will be even better.

We have a cordless Dyson V6 Animal and that's pretty good too.

I think the biggest problem with cordless devices is that they are built so small and lightweight that they don't really have much capacity to hold dirt which can be a problem, we are forever having to stop and empty the Dyson.

I have heard good things about the Gtech though.

I got the cordless Dyson V6 animal as well, it's pretty good but I've only got a small flat so not sure how it would perform in a mansion ;)
It's handy for cleaning the car though.

The GTech vacuums compact the dirt into bales, don't have to empty them that often at all.

I saw an advert for the Gtech stuff the other day. Looked interesting.

I could do with replacing my ageing vacuum cleaner (or hoover as my parents would call it!).

Cables are annoying. So rechargable could be good, especially for stairs and the car.

The boss bought one of these - It seems very good at what it does, and yes @Pete we call it a hoover as well.

So the chosen one was the GTech Air Ram MK2.  Bought yesterday and used pretty much as soon as I got it home.  It is very impressive in manoeuvrability, looks, weight, ease of use and pick up.

Because I have only ever used a vacuum with a bag you don't see how much you pick up every time.  This is a bit different simply because you'll empty it pretty much every time you use it and I must say it's quite shocking what gets into your carpet.  Easy to empty each time and sort of satisfying if maybe a little alarming.

It had about half a charge when I got it home and this was enough to  vacuum the whole house including the stairs.  Charged after first use it took a few hours to charge fully but a run around the house again today leaves it on 3/4 fully charged.

Very happy and quite impressed with it to be honest.

Thanks everybody for the  comments above.
