Members of the British public are getting their first extended trial of a driverless shuttle bus. Over the next three weeks, about 100 people will travel in a prototype shuttle on a route in Greenwich, London. The vehicle, which travels up to 10mph (16.1kmph), will be controlled by a computer. However, there will be a trained person on board who can stop the shuttle if required. Oxbotica, the firm that developed the shuttle, said 5,000 members of the public had applied to take part in the study. Josh Dinning was found hiding in a compartment under his bed A nine-year-old boy who sparked a police search when his mother awoke to find him missing was discovered hiding under his bed. Officers mounted a river search and scrambled a helicopter in a bid to find Josh Dinning, from Gateshead, who had not been seen since Monday night. Richard David Curtis, 57, was found guilty in his absence of evading more than £1.3m in excise duty A lorry driver is on the run after being caught smuggling more than five-and-a-half million cigarettes into the UK under boxes of frozen chips. Richard David Curtis, 57, from Bawtry, South Yorkshire, was stopped at the Port of Dover in November 2013. He failed to attend trial at Maidstone Crown Court in November 2016 and was found guilty of evading more than £1.3m in excise duty. He was jailed for three years nine months in his absence. The ultra low emission zone (ULEZ) will initially apply to the current congestion charge zone A date for the introduction of the ultra low emission zone in London has been announced by the capital's mayor. From 8 April 2019, the most polluting cars, vans and motorbikes will have to pay £12.50 to drive through central London, while buses, coaches and HGVs will pay £100.
