Do HATO'S ride around in unmarked vehicles? I only ask as I was at Junction 20 of the M25 yesterday, and I spotted a vehicle with orange flashing lights built around the brake light area. Two people in high viz jackets who looked like HATO's were talking to a driver of another vehicle who was parked on the hard shoulder.

Recruitment
by FoxtrotZero- 1 reply

Anyone currently working at ERCC or out of there as a Hato able to shed any light on when recruitment is likely? Call me sad but I've always fancied working for the highways agency & would be quite happy spending hours on the road and in the control room if that's where you have to start now. Rumour has it that the salary is not as good as that working for a home office force though which I currently do... Any answers appreciated

Hey guys. I saw a HATO truck today on the motorway and it had only a driver, no passenger, and as far as I could see no one in the back. Is this common? My understanding was they always went out double crewed??

Eve Oliver after her crash on the A120 First published Monday 26 January 2015 in North Essex A GRANDMOTHER who was left hospitalised after a crash on the A120 more than two-years ago has said Highways bosses should be taking the blame for incidents at the accident blackspot. How 'stealthy' are the new speed cameras? A set of verification cameras on pole (far left). In distance, a single enforcement camera and radar gun to left of gantry (halfway up) There has been alarm about new "stealth" speed cameras. Just how "sneaky" are they, asks Tom de Castella. It goes by the snappy name Highways Agency Digital Enforcement Camera System 3, or Hadecs 3 for short. The new speed camera system was installed in April 2014 between junctions five and six on the M25 in Kent, near Clacket Lane Services. But it only became operational on 22 October. By 15 January - less than three months later - 1,513 people had been caught. One of the biggest compla…

The cameras along the M60 and M62 - 32 of which are currently working - have been trapping speeders, but no fines issued because of a wording on the technical order DISPUTE: The average speed cameras have been clocking motorists but no fines have been issued Hundreds of motorists clocked speeding through extensive motorway roadworks have escaped prosecution - because of a dispute between highways chiefs. The MEN has learned that not a single speeding fine has been issued since the first of 50 average speed cameras were placed on the M60 and M62 three weeks ago. It is understood that a spat over paperwork has led to hundreds of speeding motorists escaping…

This is an explanation as to why there are often such long waits on M/ways , quite amazing how much work needs doing after a RTC! Then just to make Police`s lives harder we have rubbernecking, using mobiles, and all manor of bad driving.

If anyone has any questions about the traffic officer service, feel free to ask. As of next April, we'll no longer be HATOs as the Highways Agency is rebranding and leaving the Civil Service.
