Image copyright South Wales Police Two men who unknowingly sold more than £100,000 worth of stolen cars to the police during a six-month sting have been jailed. Dean Cronin, 41, and Daniel Gordon, 28, both from Cardiff, were behind a campaign which saw luxury cars being stolen from driveways across south Wales, the city's crown court heard. Both pleaded guilty to conspiring to handle stolen goods. Cronin was jailed for three-and-a-half years and Gordon for 20 months. Police Scotland has outlined plans to cut officer numbers by 400 as part of its 10-year policing plan. Chief Constable Phil Gormley said recruitment levels would remain unchanged in the current year, but would begin to slow between 2018-20. He said resources would be re-directed to frontline operations, amid big financial challenges. Last December, the spending watchdog said Scotland's police service was facing a £188m funding gap by 2020-21. A blind man was Tasered by police after they mistook his cane for a gun. Armed response officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to Albert Road in Levenshulme at about 18:40 GMT on Thursday after reports there was a man with a gun. They say a Taser was deployed and a 43-year-old man was detained. It was later discovered the man was actually carrying a folding cane and he was released as he posed no threat. Two police officers have been injured after their car was hit by a suspected stolen car in Newtownards, County Down. It happened as police responded to a report of a domestic incident in Donaghadee shortly after 23:00 GMT on Friday. They spotted a car believed to have been involved travelling on the Movilla Road into Newtownards but it failed to stop when signalled to do so. It hit the police car a number of times before driving off. It was discovered a short time later in Drumhirk Avenue in the town.
