Officers have made two more arrests as part of an investigation into the abuse of nine girls in Rotherham, alleged to have taken place around 17 to 20 years ago. The officers, working as part of Operation Stovewood, made the arrests in South Yorkshire on 14th and 15th September. Two men, both residents of Rotherham aged 36, were arrested about offences relating to the abuse of three girls in Rotherham who would have been aged 14/15 years at the time. The men have been questioned and released while investigations continued. A massive haul of potentially deadly Class A drugs has been stopped from hitting UK streets after an international operation led by the National Crime Agency. More than a tonne of Class A drugs – 1,196kg of heroin and morphine derivatives – were recovered from container ship the ‘Sembawang’ after it docked at the port of Felixstowe. National Crime Agency investigators developed intelligence and knew the drugs would be on the vessel when it docked in the UK en route to Antwerp. Thirteen people, including two British nationals, have been convicted in Portugal, after the National Crime Agency and Portuguese Judicial Police uncovered a plot to smuggle cocaine from the Caribbean to the UK on a cruise ship. Around 16 kilos of the drug, which once adulterated would have had a UK street value of around £2 million, were seized from a group of passengers on the vessel when it docked in Funchal, Madeira, in March 2019. More than £300,000 in cash suspected of being the proceeds of crime has been recovered following an investigation by the joint National Crime Agency and Metropolitan Police Organised Crime Partnership (OCP). Officers had seized the total sum of £306,805 on 18 January 2018. Searches of a house belonging to husband and wife Sailesh and Harkit Singara in Edgware, north west London, revealed a total of more than £200,000. Around half of the money was neatly stacked on a bed, with another £100,000 in a suitcase on the floor.
